Carlos Rivera is the author of The Local Truth, the first book in the Horror series White. He describes himself as a Hispanic horror writer, a member of the queer community, and an introverted kid who grew up in Costa Rica during the 80s and 90s. He was one of my favorite authors to talk to; he was very knowledgeable about the craft and insightful about the horror genre. We discussed some typical horror tropes among the themes he chose to write about in his book.

Mark Cheverton has the heart to help kids deal with such high-stress things as anxiety, bullying, and other hard things children go through. His Middle-Grade books were sparked after his own son, who is now an adult, experienced his own about of anxiety and later extreme bullying.

He was inspired to begin a series on one of kids’ favorite topics, Minecraft, while also dealing with some very hefty themes. Here, he gives insight into his books and how he went from having catastrophic failures to being a NY Times and USA Today Bestseller!

Sammy Beuker is a special guest for me, due to being a longtime friend. She is also a mother, wife, and author. Her debut novel The Unfortunate Life of Genevieve Ryder follows a woman in the aftermath of World War II, as she is 22 years old in a situation that most don’t look fondly at. It follows her throughout her life and the decisions she makes. JB Yanni, a time-traveling Science fiction writer, just published her fourth book in her Time Benders Series. We enjoyed talking about the Fitzgerald siblings as they learn to travel through time and seek to change history so their parents don’t die. The series goes on as they learn the rules of time bending. We also discussed how this passion grew from her desire to empower youth and the importance of networking when promoting your book.

Richard Friesen is a storyteller at heart and a science fiction author. He has recently published Hero's Welcome and Wetware Wizards, among many others. He enjoys exploring the dangers of AI. We had an in-depth conversation about the rules around robots and what we need to be wary of with AI. He also shared the background of his books!
