On the latest episode of Now, Appalachia, Eliot profiles publisher Orison Books with founder Luke Hankins. Luke Hankins is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Radiant Obstacles and Weak Devotions, as well as a forthcoming chapbook, Testament (Texas Review Press, 2024). He is also the author of a collection of essays, The Work of Creation, and is the editor of Poems of Devotion: An Anthology of Recent Poets. A volume of his translations from the French of Stella Vinitchi Radulescu, A Cry in the Snow & Other Poems, was published by Seagull Books in 2019. Hankins is a graduate of the Indiana University MFA program, where he held the Yusef Komunyakaa Fellowship in Poetry.

Jennifer Hillier imagines the worst about people, and then writes books about it. She's the USA Today bestselling author of seven psychological thrillers, including the national bestseller Little Secrets (finalist, Los Angeles Times Book Prize and Anthony Award), and Jar of Hearts (winner, ITW Thriller Award and finalist for the Anthony and Macavity Awards). Her novels have been published in twenty-two languages. Her new book, Things We Do in the Dark, is out July 19.

A Filipino-Canadian born and raised in Toronto, she spent several years in the Seattle area before returning home to Canada. She's a Seahawks fan, but she married a Packers guy. They have a young son who looks most like her when he's crying. Her favorite author is Stephen King (but whose isn't?). She's afraid of the dark and can’t sleep unless she's checked the locks on the doors several times. She loves writing when it’s raining, sleeping when it’s sunny, and reading after everyone else has gone to bed. She cherishes her family (those who read, and those who don’t), her friends (those who write, and those who don’t).

She currently lives in Oakville, Ontario with her husband and son.

In this episode, Tracy sits down with author, teacher, and dance enthusiast Dianne Pede to discuss her newest book, My Dancing Feet.

Dianne Koebel-Pede’s life-long calling is turning work into play. Whether teaching, writing, reading, or reviewing children’s books, her adventures have been rewarded and sprinkled with tons of love, laughter, gratitude, and awe. (And a few zillion mistakes, which she prefers to call opportunities for growth!) . Her favorite former gig was accidentally owning a dance studio, then writing and choreographing musicals for recitals.

Her first book, My Dancing Feet, is a rhyming celebration of dance. Released in October 2021, it made it to #1 in two Amazon bestseller categories and #2 in a third. It’s the perfect partner for children that love to move and groove. Featuring hip-hop, ballet, tap, and jazz, the young reader is invited to be the star of the story.

It’s available on Amazon. A personalized version can be ordered from Eman Books at https://www.emanbooks.com/.
