In this episode 268, we visit with Janet Sarjeant, author of “Deep Calls Unto Deep,” which draws its title from Psalm 42:7: “Deep calls unto deep at the thunder of thy cataracts.”

The book explores how three men, Louis Patrick, the minister, Tony Abbott, the poet and teacher, and Fred Buechner, the writer and theologian, shared a commonality of thought and purpose in their lives and in their writings, and how they became friends along the way.

Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor of The First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA, and author of "Like An Overflowing Stream" had this to say about the book: “It is a warm and familial tribute to three towering figures in their respective fields who, in life's wonderful providence, found one another.”

On the latest episode of Now, Appalachia, Eliot interviews author Yasmin Angoe about her debut thriller HER NAME IS KNIGHT.

Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes attorney and author Brian Cuban for the release of his new book THE AMBULANCE CHASER.

Brian Cuban, the younger brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, is a Dallas-based attorney, author, and person in long-term recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. He is a graduate of Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Brian's debut thriller, The Ambulance Chaser, releases today, December 7th 2021. His previous, best selling book, The Addicted Lawyer: Tales of the Bar, Booze, Blow, and Redemption is an unflinching look at how addiction and other mental health issues destroyed his career as a once successful lawyer, and how he and others in the profession redefined their lives in recovery and found redemption.

About THE AMBULANCE CHASER: After being accused of the murder of a high school classmate thirty years prior, lawyer Jason Feldman becomes a fugitive from justice to find the one person who can prove his innocence and save the life of his son. Pittsburgh personal injury lawyer and part-time drug dealer Jason Feldman’s life goals are simple: date hot women, earn enough cash to score cocaine on a regular basis, and care for his dementia-ravaged father. That all changes when a long-lost childhood friend contacts him about the discovery of buried remains belonging to a high school classmate who went missing thirty years prior, and the fragile life Jason’s built over his troubled past is about to come crashing down. Soon, he’s on the run across Pittsburgh and beyond to find his old friend, while trying to figure out whom to trust among Ukrainian mobsters, vegan drug dealers, washed-up sports stars, an Israeli James Bond, and an ex-wife who happens to be the district attorney. The only way he’ll survive is if he overcomes his addictions so he can face his childhood demons.

Host Pam Stack is a book junkie and cat wrangler. She is the executive producer of the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network and an internationally awarded advocate for women.

Jenny Holiday is a USA Today-bestselling and RITA®-nominated author whose books have been featured in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, The Washington Post, and National Public Radio. She grew up in Minnesota and started writing at age nine when her fourth-grade teacher gave her a notebook to fill with stories.

After college, Jenny moved to Toronto, Canada, for grad school. After picking up a PhD in urban geography, she became a professional writer. Her favorite and longest gig was promoting research at a major university, which allowed her to become an armchair astronomer/historian/particle physicist, depending on the day. After a decade of that, she decided to try her hand again at happy endings—minus the bloodbaths. “How hard can it be?” she thought? Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha. Ha. Yeah, turns out it was super hard. But after lots of rejection and an embarrassingly bad manuscript in which the hero and heroine, if one could judge by their wild and unmotivated emotional swings, clearly had personality disorders, she finally started to get the hang of it. She has published contemporary, historical, and new adult romance novels featuring both straight and gay characters, with recent works including the 49th Floor series, the New Wave Newsroom series, and cozy contemporaries including Matchmaker Bay and Mermaid Inn. Her new release, Duke, Actually, is the sequel to her 2020 novel, A Princess for Christmas.

When she’s not working on her next book, she likes to hang out with her family, watch other people sing karaoke, and throw theme parties. A member of the House of Slytherin, Jenny lives in London, Ontario, Canada.

SHOW:

This LIVE podcast brings you interviews with trending authors in Science Fiction, Fantasy, Speculative Fiction, and Romance. If that sounds like an odd combination, blame the host. A red shirt in a browncoat, Allison Martine (“A.M.”) Hubbard was busy writing speculative fiction when she tripped and fell in the hot tub. Now, she writes romance, too. This master of bad analogies, mixed metaphors, and poorly translated Latin, (which she vaguely recalls from her years as an attorney), has a penchant for bourbon, wonderfully weird books, and throwing tropes out the window.
