  • Writing Wrongs - Bill Myers Interviews David Baldacci, author of "Mercy"
    GUEST:
David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, “because every mom needs a break now and then.”)
David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. The feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 43 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers, and several have been adapted for film and television. His novels are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with 150 million copies sold worldwide. David has also published seven novels for young readers.
A lifelong Virginian, David received his Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, after which he practiced law in Washington, D.C.
In addition to being a prolific writer, David is a devoted philanthropist, and his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Wish You Well Foundation supports family and adult literacy programs in the United States. In 2008 the Foundation partnered with Feeding America to launch Feeding Body & Mind, a program to address the connection between literacy, poverty and hunger. Through Feeding Body & Mind, more than 1 million new and gently used books have been collected and distributed through food banks to families in need.
David and his family live in Virginia.

  • Terry Roberts’s “My Mistress Eyes Are Raven Black”
In this episode 262, we visit with Terry Roberts, author of “My Mistress Eyes are Raven Black,” a literary mystery that explores the disturbing lengths some people will go to protect racial purity and condemn those that are different, the ones they fear.
The book is set on Ellis Island. The year is 1920. New York Harbor's immigration and public health authorities are slowly recovering from the war years when a young, pregnant Irish woman disappears from the Isolation Hospital on Ellis Island. Stephen Robbins, a specialist in finding missing persons, is assigned the case. Yet when he arrives at the isolation hospital, he discovers an inexplicable string of deaths and disappearances among immigrant patients...and a staff that seems to be hiding a chilling secret.
Silas House, author of “Southernmost,” has this to say about the book: "Terry Roberts' new novel is a literary thriller of the highest order: lyrical and suspenseful, with characters you will long remember. This is a heart-pounding, timely, and completely immersive read. It's also Roberts' finest hour."

  • WRITERS ON THE BEAT: Acclaimed NYT Bestseller Ralph Pezzullo on Memoirs and SAIGON
NYT bestseller Ralph Pezzullo steps into the Interrogation Room to try getting his story straight about his latest release, a fictionalized memoir called SAIGON.
Ralph grew up globetrotting as his father’s State Department assignments changed every few years. He lived in Saigon from 1962 to ’65, during the times of the Tonkin Gulf Incident, the overthrow of President Diem, a number of other coup d’etats, and almost daily Vietcong terror attacks against Americans. Ralph was in Bolivia while Che Guevara worked to establish a guerilla training camp there, and in Nicaragua during the first days of the Sandanista Revolution. He’s also lived in Uruguay, Mexico, Washington, D.C., Colombia, and Guatemala. He made friends with the locals wherever he lived, and he sometimes found that circumstances at the street level varied greatly from those advocated at higher levels of international diplomacy.
Ralph’s critically acclaimed writing has included thriller and mystery novels, nonfiction, plays, screenplays, and investigative journalism. He’s worked with directors such as Oliver Stone and James Foley, and with former CIA covert operative Gary Bernsten and former LAPD detective Steve Hodel.
His latest release, SAIGON, launched on November 1st. It’s a coming of age story based on his own experiences in Saigon during the early 60s.
In this episode, Ralph and host Gavin Reese discuss writing memoirs, fictionalizing personal experiences, and who would investigate Ralph's homicide.
