Flying solo, Nola takes a "field trip" to the small town of Franklin, TN to The Lotz House. Built by a German immigrant and master woodworker as a family home, it would quickly become ground zero for the bloody Battle of Franklin. Lotz found himself in the middle of a war he had no side in and watched everything he worked for crumble in a few short hours. The house still bears the scars of the Bloodiest Five Hours of the American Civil War and is home to spirits who insist they be remembered. Come learn why the home is Travel Channel's second most terrifying home in America.

There is something special about short stories. Every word matters. For authors, it can be challenging to develop characters in so few words, but for those who get it right, the effect is remarkable.

After 42 years as a successful attorney in the Acadiana area, Jim Lambert has turned his skills toward creating short stories. In his new, critically acclaimed collection of stories, "Sub Rosa and Other Stories" Lambert's stories explore pain and loss in the South. He has created quirky, often marginalized characters who contend with forces beyond their control or understanding — including racial terror, childhood traumas, family betrayals. Lambert's readers meet characters including a childhood friend of Lee Harvey Oswald, a young lawyer sent to investigate the murder of Black troops in the Jim Crow South — and a mental patient obsessed with the film Harold and Maude. In each story, Lambert reveals the humor and tragedy running through the lives of these unique human beings.

In this episode 255, we visit with Christy Hallberg, author of “Searching for Jimmy Page,” a coming-of-age tale that takes the reader from the hills of eastern Carolina to the streets of London.

When Luna Kane recovers a memory of her dead mother—a mentally ill woman obsessed with Jimmy Page—she seeks a connection with her mother by searching for her father.

Liza Wieland, author of “Paris, 7 A.M.,” had this to say about the book, “"In her wondrous first novel, Christy Hallberg gives us a mystery, a mother-daughter love story, a paean to rock and roll, and a window into the culture of eastern North Carolina, all joined seamlessly by the elegance and poetry of her writing. It’s a book that begs to be read twice, first to find out the true story of Luna’s parentage, and then again, immediately but more slowly, to savor the beauty of the language."
