  • Amy Burle Captures the Complexities of Love and Family in “The Year of Thorns and Honey”
Amy Burle Captures the Complexities of Love and Family in “The Year of Thorns and Honey”
In this episode 192, we visit with Amy Burle, author of “The Year of Thorns and Honey,” the standalone companion to her debut, “The Lemonade Year.” This second chance romance follows photographer Nina as she navigates the messy and imperfect intricacies of the relationships in her life—her rebellious teenage daughter, her ex-husband/fiancé, her complicated family, a man she once loved, and most important of all, herself.
The reemergence of her ex-lover forces her to reflect on her past and ask some hard questions about her future. With deeply flawed characters and vivid prose, “The Year of Thorns and Honey” is an exploration of the universal desire to find your true path.
Heather Bell Adams, author of “The Good Luck Stone” had this to say about the book: “In ‘The Year of Thorns and Honey’, Amy Willoughby-Burle has crafted a warm, heartfelt story of second chances, exploring how we move forward in grace. With stunning emotional and psychological depth, the novel’s engaging characters wrestle with decisions large and small—and discover that starting over can be the most meaningful gift of all. You’ll be drawn in by Nina’s charming voice and end up falling in love with her honest vulnerability and her earnest desire to choose the best path.”

  • Ellen Birkett Morris Explores the Quiet Power of Womanhood in “Lost Girls”
Ellen Birkett Morris Explores the Quiet Power of Womanhood in “Lost Girls”
In today’s episode, we visit with Ellen Birkett Morris, author of “Lost Girls,” a short story collection which explores the experiences of women and girls as they confront the challenges and expectations of womanhood.
Jenny Offill, author of “Weather,” “Department of Speculation,” and “Last Things,” called this book a “dazzling collection of stories that showcases Morris' impressive ability to hide devastating truths within seemingly small moments.”
A review of “Lost Girls” in the Southern Review of Books said: "Through vivid snapshots of female struggle, Morris demonstrates the power of women acknowledging one another — and themselves — in a world where they are continually diminished. The women and girls in these stories hold the antidote to their own erasure, and in turn give it to us: Only we can prevent each other from becoming lost girls."

  • Authors On The Air Presents Guest Host Reavis Wartham And Pamela Fagan Hutchins
Authors on the Air presents IN CONVERSATION with guest host best-selling author REAVIS WORTHAM and USA award-winning author Pamela Fagan Hutchins.
About Pamela: I am a wannabe barrel racer afraid of going fast, an eater of ribeye, a rescuer of dogs, a fangirl podcaster, and the author of USA Today bestselling mysteries. My hunky husband and I ride our beloved draft cross horses way up in the frozen north of Snowheresville, WY. When I’m not writing or riding, I’m passionate about hiking, always with a couple of rescue dogs (and an occasional goat and donkey), bear spray, a mountain lion knife, and my Judge. NO ANIMALS HAVE BEEN HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS LIFE ADVENTURE (but don’t sneak up on me).
I’ve made some lists and won some awards, yada yada. 2020 Amazon Charts Top 25 bestseller. 2018 USA Today Bestseller. The 2017 Silver Falchion for Best Adult Mystery WINNER (Fighting for Anna), the 2016 and 2015 WINNERS for USA Best Books Fiction: Cross Genre (Hell to Pay, Heaven to Betsy), and others. With books “in print” of over 3,000,000, readers seem to enjoy the books—I think they have exceptionally good taste. {insert goofy grin here} Lots of them follow my show Wine Women & Writing, too, where I fangirl my favorite authors and interview them for your listening and viewing pleasure. https://pamelafaganhutchins.com/
ABOUT SNAGGLE TOOTH: When a plane crashes at the base of Black Tooth Mountain during a wicked summer storm, Patrick Flint’s moral compass leads him away from a trail ride with his family and to the wreckage in a search for survivors. But what he finds may teach him that not everything is what it seems, and not every life is worth saving.
About Reavis: Spur Award winner Reavis Z. Wortham retired in 2011 and now works harder than before as the author of the critically acclaimed Red River historical mystery series. Kirkus Reviews listed his first novel, The Rock Hole, as one of their Top 12 Mysteries of 2011. True West Magazine included Dark Places as one of 2015’s Top 12 Modern Westerns. The Providence Journal writes, “This year’s Unraveled is a hidden gem of a book that reads like Craig Johnson’s Longmire on steroids.” Wortham’s new high octane contemporary western series from Kensington Publishing featuring Texas Ranger Sonny Hawke kicked off in 2017 with the publication of Hawke’s Prey. The fourth Sonny Hawke thriller, Hawke’s Fury, was published in June 2020. In 2019, the Western Writers Association presented Hawke’s War with the Spur Award in the WWA Best Mass Market Paperback category. The next Red River Mystery, Laying Bones, will be published in January 2021. http://reaviszwortham.com/
ABOUT LAYING BONES: It's January 1969 in the small rural community of Center Springs, Texas. Constable Ned Parker suspects a larger mystery behind the seemingly accidental death of his nephew, R .B., who was found in his overturned pickup near Sanders Creek bridge. It appears that R. B. drowned in the shallow water, but something doesn't add up for Ned, who begins turning over stones in search of what really happened the night R. B. died. The mystery leads Ned to the Starlite Club, a dangerous honky-tonk recently constructed in a no-man's land on the Lone Star side of the Red River. His investigations there uncover suspicious characters, drugs, and gambling, but even more troubling are a series of murders that seem designed to eliminate anyone who might know what really happened to R. B. on that cold January night. As he works his way through the cover-up, Ned lands himself in a high-stakes game of consequences with no good end in sight. Are the good citizens of Center Springs conspiring against Constable Parker in his search for the truth?

Eve Prince is done—with college, with her mom, with guys, and with her dream of fashion design. But when her best friend goes MIA, Eve must gather together the broken threads of her life in order to search for her.
When Eve’s grandmother, Boop, a retiree dripping with Southern charm, finds out about the trip, she—desperate to see her sister, and also hoping to alleviate Eve’s growing depression—hijacks her granddaughter’s road trip. Boop knows from experience that healing Eve will require more than flirting lessons and a Garlic Festival makeover. Nevertheless, Boop is frustrated when her feeble efforts yield the same failure that her sulfur-laced sip from the Fountain of Youth wrought on her age. She knows that sharing the secret that’s haunted her for sixty years might be the one thing that will lessen Eve’s growing depression—but she also fears that if she reveals it, she’ll lose her family and her own hard-won happiness.
Boop and Eve’s journey through the heart of Dixie is an unforgettable love story between a grandmother and her granddaughter.
