Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes debut novelist JM Bergen to the studio to discuss his beautiful new book Thomas Wildus and The Book of Sorrows, WINNER: 2019 Feathered Quill Book Award - Young Readers (ages 8-12).

About the book: 'Magic is real, Thomas. No matter what happens, always remember that magic is real.'

Seven years have passed, and Thomas hasn't forgotten. He hasn't forgotten the blue of his dad's eyes either, or the tickle of beard on his cheek as they hugged goodbye. Last moments with a parent are memorable, even if you don't know that's what you're having.

Now, with his 13th birthday rapidly approaching, Thomas's search for magic is about to take a radical and unexpected turn. At an out-of-the-way shop filled with dusty leather books, a strange little man with gold-flecked eyes offers him an ancient text called The Book of Sorrows. The price is high and the rules are strict, but there's no way Thomas can resist the chance to look inside.

About the author: J.M.'s debut series originally started as a bedtime story for his oldest son. The story turned into a saga, and one book turned into five. The first book in the series, Thomas Wildus and The Book of Sorrows, is scheduled for release in February 2019. Thomas Wildus and The Wizard of Sumeria is scheduled to appear in early 2020.

Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes back noir crime fiction author Mike McCrary to discuss his new release HARD HEARTS.

She may be a hostage. But she’s no damsel in distress…

Becky Rant is off the grid and out for blood. Faking her own death so she can fulfill her promise, the mission leads her on the hunt for a mysterious man with a violent past. But with her sights set squarely on her target, she falls for an ambush she never saw coming…

Bound and beaten for information, her only path to freedom lies in outwitting her cruel abductors. But surviving her captivity and keeping her secret will mean placing her trust in the dangerous man at the center of her crosshairs.

Can Rant fulfill her deadly oath or will her promise get her killed?

Down-and-out filmmaker Jasper Tripp is determined to make a Hollywood comeback. After a series of cinematic failures, he’s confident his upcoming real-life crime documentary will be an all-access pass to old glory. Despite struggling to capture the candid shots he needs, putting a few criminals on the payroll should solve all his problems…

While filming a bank robbery he may or may not have orchestrated, he quickly discovers why so few directors typecast known crooks. Kidnapped and desperate to finish his production in one piece, he fears he’s created a mess that no amount of editing can fix in post.

Can Jasper sweet-talk his way out of a tight spot, or will his deranged crew script a fatal final act?

Genuinely Dangerous is an edge-of-your-seat crime caper. If you like violent noir fiction, deeply flawed characters, and pitch-black humor, then you’ll love Mike McCrary’s page-turning tale.

Paxton never thought he’d be working for Cloud, the giant tech company that’s eaten much of the American economy. It’s more than anyone else is offering.

As the truth about Cloud unfolds, Zinnia must gamble everything on a desperate scheme—one that risks both their lives, even as it forces Paxton to question everything about the world he’s so carefully assembled here.

Together, they’ll learn just how far the company will go…to make the world a better place
