  • J D Rhoades, Author, Lawyer & Columnist is on the Menu at The Blue Plate Special
Host Terri Lynn Coop serves up author, lawyer, and columnist J.D. Rhoades on The Blue Plate Special.
Bestselling author, attorney, award winning newspaper columnist--J.D. Rhoades is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but with a soft creamy center. He attended the University of North Carolina, where he majored in Spelling. A stint in UNC's creative writing program resulted in his not writing another word of fiction for 13 years, unless you count legal briefs.
In 1993, Rhoades' local newspaper, the Southern Pines, North Carolina, Pilot, apparently got tired of his snarky and sarcastic letters to the editor and asked him to write a weekly column. After a few years and an award for the column from the North Carolina Press Association, the same editor grudgingly allowed as how Rhoades wasn't a complete hack after all, and suggested he write a novel. "Hey," he said, "how hard can it be?" The answer, as it turns out, was "very hard indeed."
He wrote a novel. It sank like a stone. For some inexplicable reason, he wrote another. That one, THE DEVIL'S RIGHT HAND, was picked up by St. Martin's Minotaur and was nominated for the Shamus Award for Best First P.I. novel. Several more Jack Keller novels followed, including the most recent HELLHOUSE ON MY TRAIL.

  • Myke Cole, Author of Gemini Cell, is on the Menu at The Blue Plate Special
Host Terri Lynn Coop serves up military sci-fi/fantasy/thriller author Myke Cole on The Blue Plate Special.
“Think Vince Flynn plus a whole lot of magic mixed in and baked in hellfire, and you’ve got the gist of how awesome Myke Cole’s new series is shaping up to be.”—Michael Patrick Hicks, author of Emergence
Myke Cole has translated a life in intelligence, the military, and law enforcement into a career as a TV personality, historian, and novelist. On the screen and on the page, he takes you where the action is.
As a security contractor, government civilian, and military officer, Myke's career has run the gamut from counterterrorism to cyber warfare to federal law enforcement. He’s done three tours in Iraq and was recalled to serve during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
He recently was part of the cast of the TV show Hunted on CBS as part of an elite team of fugitive hunters. All that conflict can wear a guy out. Thank goodness for fantasy novels, comic books, late-night games of Dungeons & Dragons, and lots of angst-fueled writing.

  • Gabino Iglesias, Author of Zero Saints, is on the Menu at The Blue Plate Special
Host Terri Lynn Coop serves up author, blogger, and photographer Gabino Iglesias on The Blue Plate Special.
"Call him the Barrio Palahniuk, a badass Henry Miller, Charles Willeford in Cholo-land--whatever the moniker, for my money Gabino Iglesias is one of the most fearless, original and riveting writers working today. If there's any justice on this hellhole of a planet, Zero Saints--an instant, wild-ass classic--should launch its author far from outlier status into the wet, palpitating heart of contemporary literature. This is a fierce, nasty, beautiful, sucker-punch of a novel. You'd be an idiot not to read it immediately." - Jerry Stahl, author of Permanent Midnight and I, Fatty
Gabino Iglesias hides near a dumpster in Austin, Texas, where he works as a freelance journalist and convinced a college to give him a PhD. His nonfiction has appeared in places like The New York Times, Z Magazine, El Nuevo Día, and others. The stuff that's made up has been published in Red Fez, Flash Fiction Offensive, Drunk Monkeys, Bizarro Central, Paragraph Line, Divergent Magazine, Cease, and Cows. When not writing or fighting ninja squirrels, he devours books and spits out reviews that have been published in Verbicide, The Rumpus, Word Riot, Heavy Feather Review, The Lazy Fascist Review, Bookslut, Electric Literature, Atticus Review, Entropy, HorrorTalk, Necessary Fiction, The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction, Out of the Gutter, Spinetingler Magazine, and Buzzy Mag.

  • Anthony Nominated Author John Shepphird is on the Menu at The Blue Plate Special
Host Terri Lynn Coop serves up Anthony nominated John Shepphird on The Blue Plate Special.
Life can turn on a dime against the jagged cliffs of California’s Central Coast... Bruised, battered, but determined, Jane Innes must navigate a tangled web of deception, depravity, and murder, and turn the tables on cunning swindlers. Using the art of deception, this out-of-work actress embarks on a daring caper—her last chance to take down a deadly adversary.
From Down & Out Books, following THE SHILL and KILL THE SHILL, BEWARE THE SHILL concludes this thrilling trilogy from Shamus Award-winning author John Shepphird, an author and writer-director of TV movies.
His three SHILL novellas were inspired by noir master James M. Cain; it is a terse, tense, and twist-filled trilogy with a cast of characters immersed in the art of deception, depravity, and murder. The Art of Deception is a theme common in his crime fiction.
