  • LIVE from Glasgow - JAY STRINGER on Skid Row Chatter with host Tom Pitts
Skid Row Chatter host Tom Pitts presents Jay Stringer LIVE from Glasgow.
Jay Stringer was born in 1980, and he's not dead yet. He was raised in the Black Country, in England, but now calls Glasgow home, and his loyalties are divided.  Jay is dyslexic, and came to the written word as a second language, via comic books, music, and comedy.  As a child, he spent his time dreaming of living in the New York of Daredevil comics and crime fiction, but as an adult he's channelled those dreams into fiction of his own.  Jay writes hard boiled crime stories, dark comedies, and social fiction. His heart beats for the outsider, and for people without a voice. He's coined the term "social pulp fiction" to describe his style.  You can catch him at Twitter under @JayStringer.
Host Tom Pitts:  Tom Pitts received his education on the streets of San Francisco. He remains there, working, writing, and trying to survive. The new edition of his novel, HUSTLE, is out now from Down & Out Books. His novellas, Piggyback (Snubnose Press) and Knuckleball (One Eye Press), are available now. His new novel, American Static, will be released by Down & Out Books in June 2017  Find links to more of his work at: http://TomPittsAuthor.com

  • Rob Hart's new Ash McKenna a hit and we'll talk about why on Authors on the Air
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes best-selling author Rob Hart to the studio.  Hailed by Mysterious Bookshop and Mysterious Press proprietor Otto Penzler as the author to watch, Rob's Ash McKenna series is winning accolades from reviewers everywhere.  Tonight Rob and Pam will be discussing the new book "South Village".    Ash McKenna used to be an amateur P.I.—emphasis on ‘amateur’. Despite good intentions, he made a mess of his life in New York, so tried to build a new one in Portland. But after a traumatic turn of events, he ends up on a commune in the Georgia woods, binge-drinking cheap whiskey and waiting for his passport to flee the country and nightmares that have followed him.
Then a man is found dead. Known only as ‘Crusty Pete’, the commune dweller is sprawled in the dirt, having fallen from a high rope bridge. It’s written off as an accident, but Ash suspects something more sinister. As he looks into Pete’s death, Ash is shocked to find the supposedly peaceful community houses a rogue faction preparing to commit an unspeakable act of violence.
Ash has to make a choice: run, or put his skills to use and try to stop them. But he doesn’t know who to trust, or where the faction is planning to strike. As he struggles to put a stop to the violence, while keeping his own demons at bay, Ash finds that it’s only a matter of time before one or the other puts him down for good.

  • David Morrell: The climax to Murder as a Fine Art - RULER OF THE NIGHT - Live
David Morrell is the award-winning author of First Blood, the novel in which Rambo was created,  a ground-breaking novel about a returned Vietnam veteran suffering from post-trauma stress disorder who comes into conflict with a small-town police chief and fights his own version of the Vietnam War.  Morrell is the author of more than thirty books, including such high-action thrillers as The Naked Edge, Creepers, and The Spy Who Came for Christmas . Always interested in different ways to tell a story, he wrote the six-part comic-book series, Captain America: The Chosen, the two-part comic-book series, Spider-Man: Frost, and the standalone comic book, Savage Wolverine:Feral. His writing book, The Successful Novelist, analyzes what he has learned during his four decades as an author. Morrell’s latest novels, Murder as a Fine Art and Inspector of the Dead, are Victorian mystery/thrillers that explore the fascinating world of 1850s London. Based on years of research, they attempt to make readers believe they are truly on those harrowing, fogbound streets. Both novels feature a controversial, brilliant literary figure of the era, Thomas De Quincey, who wrote the sensational memoir, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, and invented the true-crime genre in his equally sensational essay, “Postscript: On Murder Considered as One of the Fine Arts.” "Ruler of the Night" is the climax to Murder as a Fine Art.
