  • You name the mystery - Elaine Viets writes it. LIVE on Authors on the Air
Next in the Women Writers Month series is Elaine Viets, Florida resident who enjoys writing all kinds of mysteries.  This is what she says about herself:
It’s midnight on a moonless night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From my office window I see boats with no running lights slipping down the Intracoastal Waterway. What illegal cargo are they carrying: drugs, guns, people? I’ve used them all in my Dead-End Job mysteries. Across a canal, my window overlooks a million-dollar condo where mysterious neighbors hold parties in the dead of night. Everyone dresses in black evening clothes. They became the inspiration for my short story, “Vampire Hours.” South Florida is the setting for my Dead-End Job mysteries and many short stories. It’s the inspiration that feeds my dark side. One of my snowbird neighbors turned out to be a drug dealer. I should have known that a pilot didn’t make enough money to own a Porsche, a Harley, a state-of-the-art sound system, a house and a beachside condo unless he was flying in a very special cargo. I had no idea he was a drug dealer until he didn’t return to Florida one winter. My roots are in the Midwest, where I set my other mystery series. http://elaineviets.com

  • Susan Donovan on women's fiction LIVE for Women Writers Month on AOTA
Women's fiction author Susan Donovan stops by for a conversation with Authors on the Air host Pam Stack.  We are celebrating Women Writers Month with Susan.  Here is a little about her:
When my youngest started kindergarten, I decided to try my hand at fiction writing. My goal was to make a living selling my novels, so I began a process of elimination to decide exactly what kind of popular fiction I wanted write. When I discovered that romance would allow me to tell a variety of stories in a variety of settings – as long as the story revolved around a committed love relationship headed toward a happy ending – that’s the genre I chose. Since my first book was published in 2002, I’ve written seventeen novels and six novellas. As we all know, life is not as neatly plotted as a romance novel, and I have had to push through some extremely difficult times.  These days my life is calm and peaceful. I have moved to a small town (what’s with the small towns?!)in New Mexico, where I am surrounded by sunshine and mountains and wildlife. It is a perfect setting for letting my imagination run wild, and who knows where my writing will be headed next? I believe the possibilities are limitless. My kids are grown and are out there pursuing their own dreams. I am very proud of both of them, and if there’s anything I’ve taught them I hope it’s this: you can do anything you set your mind to.
