My son CJ is autistic, but he is also a grown man.

Too often, autistic adults are spoken to like children, ignored during conversations about their own lives, or treated as if needing support means they cannot make choices.

In this episode of Autism Through My Eyes, I’m having an honest conversation about respecting autistic adults, supporting their independence, protecting their dignity, and learning when parents should step in and when we should step back.

Our children may always be our babies, but they will not always be children.

Needing support does not erase adulthood.

Speak directly to them. Include them. Listen to them. Respect them.

I used to ask my child, “how was your day?” and most of the time, I got one-word answers… or nothing at all.

It wasn’t that they didn’t want to talk.
