Jessica Scherr is an Award-Winning, SAG-AFTRA, Actress, and Writer who decided to take a chance and bring to life a Hollywood legend.  The actress has played memorable roles in Blue Bloods (CBS), Cloak and Dagger (ABC Freeform), and Claws (TNT). Most recently, she received rave reviews for her one-woman stage show, "Bette Davis Ain't for Sissies!" The play revolves around Davis's campaign against the male-dominated studios. The accomplished talent is stealing the hearts of audiences, playing the fiery redhead.

In 1936, Warner sued Bette Davis, forcing her to honor her contract. The prevalence of sexism in Hollywood was accepted behavior. The disheartened actress was ahead of her time and determined to blaze a new trail for women in the industry. Tired of receiving unfavorable roles, she fought to find her place in the acting world. In 1938, she made the cover of Time Magazine and went on to become a Hollywood legend. She used her voice to fight unfair treatment, empowering others to challenge the system and stand up for the things they believed in.

I came across impressive facts while preparing for this interview. Davis was the first female president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the first woman to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. She had four marriages, and three abortions, was the second wife of Miles Davis, and also had a daughter who did not speak to her. Despite the hardships surrounding her personal life, she became a prolific actress with a successful career.

AW sat down with Jessica to discuss the role and the woman who inspired it, the challenges of playing someone bigger than life, and the lessons learned. As a woman, I was fascinated to learn about the trailblazer and the impact of her story.  I'm sure you will too!
