Encountering Jesus will produce repentance, trust, and worship in His people.

In this final letter to the church, Jesus calls out this church for being lukewarm. Jesus wishes that this church was good for something. How do we avoid being like this church, by letting Jesus in.

The church in Sardis had a reputation for being alive, but Jesus sees beyond the surface to the heart of this church. Jesus calls this church dead. But He tells them what to do to become alive again.

The church in Thyatira was a church known for tolerating false teaching and sin in their church. And Jesus brings strong correction to this church.

Compromising can be a good thing in the family, in business, and with peace treaties with nations, but it is dangerous in a spiritual sense. It is possible to not reject Jesus but to restrict His influence in our lives.

God desires devotion over doctrine. As we conduct ministry in our lives our works should be rooted in a foundation of devotion to Christ Jesus. We want to pay attention to the warning given to the church of Ephesus and hold firmly the devotion we have for Christ. It is from this devotion to Christ that leads us in our daily interactions with others so that we are presenting a Jesus who places an emphasis on loving others. Doctrine without devotion tends to be sterile and can be hurtful to others in the Body of Christ.

John finds himself in the middle of persecution and he is on the island of Patmos. But in the middle of this tribulation, John gets a picture of Jesus and reassurance in this bad place.

Revelation is one of the most mysterious, controversial, neglected books of the Bible. It’s a book that has attracted and repelled people. But what we see in the opening of this book should encourage us and make us love Jesus more!
