  • When the World Feels Too Heavy

After hearing about the recent school shooting in Oregon, Brenda found herself sitting with a difficult question: How do we keep our hearts open when the world feels so painful?

As a mother and highly sensitive person, Brenda reflects on how deeply tragic news can affect us. The search for answers can leave us overwhelmed by grief, anger, and fear, making it difficult to be present with what we’re feeling.

In this heartfelt episode, Brenda shares her thoughts on recognizing when we’ve taken in enough information, allowing difficult emotions without becoming consumed by them, and choosing compassion even when we cannot make sense of another person’s actions.

The episode concludes with a minute of silence, inviting listeners to offer prayers, loving intentions, or quiet reflection for everyone affected by violence and tragedy. A reminder to care for our own hearts while remembering our connection to one another.

  • Possibility After Disappointment

What happens when an experience you’ve been looking forward to turns out completely differently than you hoped?

In this episode of Awaken Sensitivity, Brenda Carey shares an audio reading of her latest New Moon writing, Possibility After Disappointment. Inspired by two very different days in Glacier National Park, she reflects on disappointment, expectations, and those times when life simply doesn’t unfold the way we imagined.

Sometimes we try again and things change. Sometimes they don’t. And honestly, sometimes disappointment is simply disappointment. Perhaps the question is whether we can acknowledge what we’re feeling while staying open to what might still be possible.

  • The Pressure To Get It Right

Have you ever spent so much time trying to make the right decision that you end up not making one at all?

For highly sensitive people and deep thinkers, thoughtful decision-making can sometimes turn into overthinking. We research, weigh every option, listen to our intuition, ask for advice, and keep searching, hoping eventually we’ll feel completely certain about what to do.

In this episode of Awaken Sensitivity, Brenda Carey explores the subtle difference between thoughtful discernment and searching for certainty. Drawing from her own experiences with publishing her first book and navigating the changes of menopause, she reflects on what happens when the desire to make the “right” decision begins to keep us stuck.

If you tend to overthink decisions, second-guess yourself, or search for certainty before moving forward, this reflection invites you to loosen the pressure to get it right and reconnect with the wisdom already within you.

  • Trusting Through Uncertainty

What happens when we’re ready for change but still want to know where it will lead?

Uncertainty can make us hold even tighter to what feels familiar. We may search for answers, reassurance, or a clear path forward before allowing ourselves to take the next step.

In this reflection and guided meditation with Brenda Carey, you’ll spend time beside a flowing creek and explore what it feels like to soften your need for certainty. You don’t have to let go before you’re ready. And you don’t have to know exactly what comes next to begin trusting yourself.

This meditation is an invitation to loosen your grip, listen to your Inner Wisdom, and trust yourself to find your way as the path unfolds.

  • When You’re Still Holding On Meditation

Every fall, we are reminded to let go. But what if sometimes we try to let go too soon?

In this reflection and guided meditation with Brenda Carey, we explore the resistance that can arise during seasons of change and what happens when, instead of trying to overcome it, we become curious about what we are still holding on to.

Through visualization, you’ll be invited to notice where resistance lives within you, listen to what may be beneath it, and give yourself permission to move through change in your own time.

Perhaps letting go doesn’t always begin with release. Sometimes it begins with listening.

This is the first episode of a new season of the Awaken Sensitivity podcast after a summer pause, and I’m grateful to be returning and sharing this space with you.
