There is an emerging alliance among three groups — Silicon Valley technocrats, Protestant reconstructionists, and American traditionalist Catholics — united by the belief that Western civilization can only be saved through an autocratic ruler - an “American Caesar,” “Protestant Franco,” “Christian prince,” or “Appalachian Pinochet” - rather than through democracy or Enlightenment ideals.
Five defining traits of the coalition:
* Anti-liberal – They reject Enlightenment ideals of freedom, self-rule, and free thought rather than trying to revive them.
* Post-libertarian – Despite roots in libertarian-adjacent tech culture, they’ve moved past it toward centralized power.
* Anti-democratic – They see democracy itself as the problem, not the fix, and want a strongman figure instead.
* Pro-autocracy as social control – They believe an authoritarian leader is needed to rein in what they frame as societal chaos — feminism/”wayward women,” immigration, “woke” culture, and shifting family/gender norms.
* United by “Western civilization” framing – Rather than narrower slogans like “Make America Great Again,” they rally around the elastic term “Western civilization,” which lets disparate factions unite against shared enemies (wokeism, Antifa, Islam, reproductive rights, non-Christian/non-European identities) without needing full ideological overlap.
Who is in this affinity group? Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, William Wolfe, JD Vance, and Pete Hegseth, and many more. American Caesar is unique in tying the theological (Protestant/Catholic Christian supremacy) and tech-fascist strands together as one movement rather than two separate trends.
