Robert’s Weekly Insights - https://www.lifeproassetmanagement.com/insights
LPAM YouTube Channel: Here
Notes:
Review Robert’s basic stock parameters - More about liquidity vs. market cap – mid to large.
Where in the cycle are we at? Secular growth
Rate of change – feeds into earnings
Qualitative side – some disruption, then turn around
Momentum and sales growth – sector trend – positive
Earnings don’t matter, until they matter / can be Balance Sheet, EBITDA. Look at CF, FCF.
Valuations – rise and buy and when to bail.
Screening – difficult to screen certain factors
Machine – many traders using computers and algorithms – see where the money flows are
Commodities – oil, gas, copper – 2010 hot because China building
Software – trades on billings growth, recurring. Does it grow quarterly?
Financials – yield curve and earnings
Utilities – bonds, what is your 10 year yield? (P/E – 5x)
Broadly speaking – is this business growing and capturing market share, leader in the space? Good balance sheet, low debt
Keep it simple, Wall Street makes it too complicated.
2020 – Recession, 2021 recovery. Low interest rates and recovery – S&P up.
Robert was heavy on tech and software from 2010 – 2020
Make money regardless of state of the market
Investing style is over-rated. Dominate investing theme. Do not put yourself in a box – these themes could last 5 – 10 years. Sector themes last up to 10 years.
Investing – 3 changes of doubt, acceptance, & exuberance usually takes 10 years for all 3.
Physics Analogy – takes so much force to push a stock higher, needs so much money buying the stock to push it higher.
Big tech rising so much, gets so big and now government regulates and growth slows.
Passive – buy Market Index and hold for years. No market timing, own group of stocks and hold for years.
Active - minimize exposure to areas getting disrupted and beat up. Move money to sectors growing and buy companies that lead. Companies, like people or Empires, are born, grow and then die.
Mean reversion – catalyst to make it happen, to turn it around. Follow others who discovered turn around.
Oil and gas – 2.4% of S&P
Tech and Comm.– 40% of S&P
Apple and Tesla bigger in S&P than oil and gas, (steel, copper)
Catalyst - rebuild west, materials, oil & gas, commodities, financials (banks)
Re-flationary – banks borrow money low and lending more money now, Volume on loans
Raw material cost is $0 for banks – spread banks pay .05% and make 1.5% spread
Risky and Riskier Stocks, all Stocks have risk
What is your timeline? Needs to be long term, ie - Miss 10 days of recovery, lose 50% gains
Price does not equal truth
What are you investing in? What is your exit plan?
Mid Life structure – making money too easy, too speculative.
Distribution - Top 1%, top 20%, top 50%, Markets teach hard lessons on wealth
Crypto and Block chain are real, but like 2000 tech. Not there yet, take 10 years.
Who will be the winners? 2000 looked like Yahoo, AOL & Netscape, but Amazon + Google won.

- BRT S02 EP26 (73) 6-27-2021
Things We Learned This Week

https://www.completingthepuzzle.com/
https://www.facebook.com/completingthepuzzle/
Brian and Alania talk about their business that was started during the Pandemic – Completing the Puzzle, the Netflix (think DVD shipping) of puzzles. You join the club and can get puzzles sent to you on a regular basis, do the puzzle and ship it back. This is the classic startup story of 2 people working in the corporate world, that started their own business, worked it as a 2nd job, until they could quit their jobs and operate it full time.
The founders come from the online world, so they have a background in web design, software design, E-Commerce, product launches and marketing. These skills were used to get this new opportunity off the ground. The business was originally worked out from their garage, and now it is a warehouse operation entertaining, and serving the Puzzle community on Facebook and beyond.
Monthly Puzzle subscriptions with options. Puzzles come delivered thru the mail. After you are done, you return it for a new Puzzle. Niche business with fan following on Facebook & Pinterest.
Guest: Denver Nowicz, President - Wealth For Life http://wealthforlife.net/
Denver is an advisor with nearly 20 years experience working with clients in investments and insurance, designing retirement plans with a combo of both. He takes us through different strategies for clients to get the best allocations for their money over the long term. It is the Combo Strategy of both Offense and Defense, the synergy of the mix, not ‘All or Nothing’.
Today we talk about Executives, and what strategies can they use to handle taxes, investments, & retirement. The standard retirement plans (IRA, Roth IRA, 401K), what is a 401K, and the deferred tax setup in the plan (and recs take company match on 401K). We shift to why business owners have more options and benefits and what are they (Acquire assets, stocks, real estate, invest in business).
The 3 Tax Buckets – income, tax deferred, tax free, and understanding the 3, and tax protection – move more $ to the tax free position. When you have Assets – rental real estate, cash flowing business, IUL, you can use them for tax benefits. Create your own Exit Strategy as if you sold the biz you worked for, and get the benefits of 3 to 1 Lender Match. What is the strategy of Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos with Tax Free Loans?
Notes:
Executive and W2 employees make $100 K + and get W2 income taxes put money into 401K, tax deferred saves money in taxes now, but costs later.
Own business-get deductions, less taxes
Real estate- get deductions, depreciation less taxes
Capital Gains at 15-20%, better than 30% + income taxes.
Top 10% earners pay 70% taxes
Roth IRA – pay tax first, growth is tax free. Caps out at certain income, circa $180K.
Most advisors suggest 401K, because instant tax savings, but do not discuss taxes later, because pay taxes in retirement
Should ask if you want to pay taxes now (Roth) or later (401K). If they asked that question, more people would choose Roth. Then you know the Government is out of the picture.
Government is your partner always, and IRS takes their cut.
Better to know your tax rate now and pay now
Not all insurance strategies are good, not all are bad, just like stocks or real estate – some are good.
IUL – have caps on upside, get uncapped. Expenses go down over time. Max fund, and get 8-10% per year and NO market risk. Add financial leverage with 3 total and asset grows bigger – use loans like real estate ex. Use call options, no losses. Create $1 million tax free asset growing
*Loans are the gateway to tax free money.
Reduce risk and put yourself in better position. Wealthy people use OPM – not only their own money.
Use options strategy, not in market but linked to the market, capture gains, but not the losses.
Avoid market roller coaster - gain money, lose money, repeat. Instead with options strategy – lock in gains, no losses. - Market down 25%, need 50% gain to get even.
3 to 1 matching program with loans. No loan docs or guarantees, asset is collateral, bank loans on policy.
No limit, you put in $500K, bank matches with $1.5 million (3 to 1)

3D printing – history of factory molding & cutting design manufacturing
3D - slice it up 200x & robot or laser 7 builds material from layer 1 to 200
Intel Pentium computer – currently computing power up faster & complex 100 x à 1000
Modeling & simulation – Bigger part of biz for biz to biz market – make prototypes
Cost of machines down, materials are better, cheaper to make & more robust use.
Construction – build houses
Medical – CT Scan à 3D model to practice surgery on models life saving. Or use it to guide surgery, even cancer treatment – custom parts.
Aerospace – 3D printing for rockets for moon & mars exploration
Robot – hand (end effector) - built by 3D. Get price numbers down and rebuild (reboot) American manufacturing. Automation / robotics / 3D all connected . This is the future.
Not quite AI, but more robotics with AI assistance to monitor. Supply chain is fragile – solution is automation & 3D printing.
AZ Tech – was semiconductor hub, now more tech is coming and more factories being built because of past biz – Aerospace – Raytheon, Motorola, Honeywell
History dates back to WWII – concerns of coastal co’s à move inland to AZ

Bitcoin as Portfolio Insurance Paper - https://bitcoinmagazine.com/markets/executive-summary-why-every-fixed-income-investor-needs-to-own-bitcoin-as-portfolio-insurance
http://www.worldgovernmentbonds.com/cds-historical-data/
Greg Foss is a former credit trader, who has worked in finance and the bond markets for nearly 30 years. This talk is a breakdown a paper Greg recently wrote entitled – ‘Why Every Fixed Income Investor Should Needs to Own Bitcoin as Portfolio Insurance’.
He gives an overview of the credit markets, how bonds work, interest rates and inflation and US Treasury historical rates. Greg ties this to the overall market, currencies (fiat and hard assets), stocks and the effects current Government deficits have.
Greg tells every investor to pay attention to credit markets as they are indicators of what is going on with stocks. His belief is the US Dollar is dwindling as the reserve currency, and Bitcoin (not Gold) is the better hedge vs inflation.
Greg thinks Bitcoin will one day replace the US dollar as the reserve currency of the world. He goes further to give his insights on Bitcoin, the intrinsic value and where it will be in 10 to 20 years.
Notes:
Value of time, energy of work.
Fiat defined
Bond basics and interest rates
Bitcoin basics – ‘digital energy’ – 1st low thermodynamics – energy stored.
Cash/gold as currency – Blockchain – no forgery – vs. gold (is it Tungsten?)
Bitcoin intrinsic value – 21 mil ‘hard’ cap of BC, equation
Credit default swaps market and how it applies
Devaluing a currency - ‘debasement’ print more money and existing money in market,( lower or decrease) - more dollars to buy that house.
Jeffery Gundlach – current Bond King, formerly it was Bill Gross of Pimco
All US credit and world – priced out of NY
Leverage – 10x leads to credit implosion in 2008.
Ratings Agency – S&P signs off on bad debt 2008.
Banks – levered 15-20x, fractional reserve swift system – takes days or weeks to settle.
Credit markets & CD’s - $900 Trillion Total Global Debt
Actual intrinsic value - 90 TR / 21 million = 4.5 million / BC
Energy priced in BC and reserve asset of world
Always hedge the risks – manage risk
‘Volatility is the price of return’ – Bill Miller
BC volatility similar to Amazon stock – many draw downs over 20 years.
