Continuing to Grow in Services and Programs
Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center and its affiliates continue to grow and expand on the services and programs to meet the healthcare needs of our communities. In April 2015, Summit Healthcare installed a state-of-the-art surgical navigation system from Stryker. Summit Healthcare is among the first in the Northeastern Arizona to use a computer-assisted navigation system in conjunction with orthopedic joint replacement surgery. Dr. Raul Curiel is currently using navigation technology from Stryker in knee/hip replacement surgeries.
In November, Summit Healthcare was designated Arizona’s first and only Touchpoints Arizona site. DeAnn Davies, Director of Early Childhood Outreach and Child Psychology (ECOD), Sarah Nolan, Coordinator, Healthy Steps for Young Children, and Rebecca Benda-Dodd, Coordinator, Program for Infant and Toddler Care completed the rigorous one year prerequisite protocol and application process and training to become Touchpoints Community Level Trainers for the Brazelton Institute of Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The Touchpoints model provides a strategy for practitioners to provide non-judgmental and supportive care. Touchpoints promotes the mission and vision of Summit Healthcare because families receiving the Touchpoints approach will have one more reason to trust they will receive exceptional and compassionate care close to home. The Summit Healthcare ECOD Touchpoints training team will be offering this training to Summit and community based healthcare and social workers to enhance relationship building with those we serve.
Across the country, healthcare facilities in rural areas are joining forces to create large networks of healthcare providers focusing on increased collaboration. In August, Summit Healthcare announced that it has entered into an oncology collaboration agreement with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona. This agreement is an extension of the existing health care collaboration between Summit Healthcare and Banner Health. The primary goal of both agreements is to ensure that Summit Healthcare patients receive the highest level of care for all their medical needs. Through this oncology agreement, Summit Healthcare patients will have direct access to Banner MD Anderson, should the need arise. The preferred referral relationship between these entities will provide patients with a designated navigator to coordinate seamless care in the event that transfers to Banner MD Anderson are necessary. The navigator will assist these patients through their courses of treatment at Banner MD Anderson and help with their integration back home once treatment is complete.
Summit Healthcare has been engaged in a wide-ranging, collaborative effort to expand behavioral health care services. The effort began with behavioral health planning and outreach grants, both from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The overall goal is to develop an integrated model of primary care and behavioral health care. The integrated care network will include Summit Healthcare, Banner Health, Community Counseling Centers and Northern Arizona’s Regional Behavioral Health Authority, Health Choice Integrated Care.
