As a child it bothered me when someone would copy what I was doing.  Finally one day my dad said “didn’t you know that imitation is the highest form of flattery?”  And he was right, imitating the behavior or actions of another is to pay them a compliment.  Paul calls us as the church not to imitate the sinful ways of this world but to be imitators of God, children of the Light.

“Unity” has been quite a buzz world in our world as of late yet often seems to be confused with uniformity or sold as a strawman principle with no foundation.  In his letter to the Church Paul calls for unity while at the same time defining what this concept looks like and how we can become engaged in this oneness to which we have been called.

There are many powerful emotions in our world, fear, joy, hate, but there is truly none as powerful as love.  Love changes us, makes us do crazy things, fills us up as no other emotion can.  A parent’s love for a child is precious, true love between spouses is admired, but the love of God though Christ is unmatched.  Be completely fulfilled and empowered by this immeasurable gift.

Being on the outskirts, or worse rejected is not desirable in the minds of most.  Almost every human being knows what it is like to not be accepted, and it hurts.  Although some may falsely see God as one who is far off we see a track record of One who seeks to be near to us.  God truly wants us to find peace at His side, to be members of His household, to be joined together with Him.

Being chosen creates a special element of acceptance and worth in our life.  It’s true of a child being picked for a game of kickball or an adult being selected for a promotion.  As Christians we have an even more special blessing in Christ.  That we have been chosen by God, adopted as his children, given the responsibility to worship and glorify our Creator.
