Damian Chazelle reportedly helped a studio out of a bind when he agreed to direct First Man, and now the studio system is paying him back by letting him write and direct a film about the decline of the Golden Age of Hollywood that is over three hours long ... and barely contains a plot.
But what it does contain is some top shelf technical efforts, a cracking soundtrack, and some excellent performances. Is that enough to propel Babylon into being amazing? Or does it all end in a shower of elephant do-doo?
