As our month long celebration of famed actress Viola Davis draws to a close, we are joined by fellow South Dakota movie aficionado Shandra Wonnenberg of the Fellowship of the Mic Podcast to discuss the 2016 Viola Davis drama from actor and director Denzel Washington, Fences. Shandra joins us to discuss Davis’s Academy Award winning performance, Denzel’s take on the fame stage play, and her history and work as a movie buff.

Based on the critically acclaimed August Wilson stage play, Fences was release in the winter of 2016 and is directed by Denzel Washington. Washington, who portrays the lead character Troy, a lower economic class garbage collector whom lives in Pittsburgh with his wife Rose (Viola Davis) and teenage son Cory (Jovan Adepo) during the 1950’s. Troy is frequented by his longtime friend Jim Bono (Stephen McKinley Henderson) and eldest son Lyons (Russell Hornsby) as we follow his life through relationships, family, work and alcohol abuse.
