  • Musicians That NEED a Biopic

    On this episode of the Back Lot 605 Podcast, hosts Casey and Brian break down their picks for musicians that are in need of a biopic. In honor of the release of Rocketman this upcoming week, what would be some of your picks for future biopics? The Schmuck Club also takes a look at the biggest news stories of the week, including John Wick 4. They also take note of this week’s box office numbers!



    The Box Office



    Disney reigns supreme at the box office once again with Aladdin coming it at number one. The live action remake pulled in over $86 million in it’s first weekend out. Last week’s number one film, John Wick 3, racks up $24 million in week two. The James Gunn produced Brightburn rounds off the top five with $7.5 million. Lastly, Booksmart brings in $6.5 million in it’s first weekend out.



    The News



    After the box office and critical success of John Wick 3, Lionsgate announces that Chapter 4 will release May 21, 2021. From one unstoppable killing machine to another, Terminator: Dark Fate drops it’s first trailer. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up together for the first time since T2: Judgement Day. Tim Miller (Deadpool) steps into the directing chair for the film which is a follow up to the events of T2.



    Schwarzenneger begins filming his next film later this summer alongside Michael Fassbender, Kung Fury 2. Based on the cult classic short film from David Sandberg, Kung Fury 2 brings back all the 80’s B-Movie nostalgia from the original. Taika Waititi will directed a live action version of the acclaimed anime Akira. Akira will go head to head with John Wick 4 on May 21, 2021.



    Musicians in Need of a Biopic



    With the release of the Elton John biopic Rocketman on May 31st, we take a look at other musicians in need of the same treatment. With Brian growing up in the age of grunge rock, how many Seattle bands will he have on his list? Do any of Casey’s favorite bands make the list? Listen to find out!   • Robert Pattinson is The Batman

    This week on the Back Lot 605 Podcast, Casey flies solo on the show with Brian out in Iowa doing whatever it is you do in Iowa. He is talking some of his recent watches from the past week, including Hellraiser 3 and the Austin Powers trilogy. Also, Casey takes a look at the top films at the box office and the news from the week. This includes the big news from the week, Robert Pattinson cast as The Batman.



    The Box Office



    In a surprising upset to the Back Lot team, John Wick: Chapter 3 tops the box office. With a $57 million opening, Wick becomes the film that tops Avengers: Endgame at the box office. Endgame inches closer to topping Avatar, with the film now less than $100 million away from becoming the highest grossing film of all time. Pokemon Detective Pikachu continues to shine at the box office pulling in $24 million in it’s second weekend.



    The News



    Chris Rock announces that he will Executive Produce a new series of Saw films beginning October 2020. No director has been announced at this time. James Wan will also Executive Produce, but it has also been confirmed that his Mortal Kombat movie will begin production. The Wan produced film will begin filming this summer and set for a 2021 released date.



    A couple of new trailers dropped this week. One of those is Tom Holland’s (Child’s Play, Fright Night) directed Rock, Paper, Scissors. After his release from a rehabilitation center, a serial killer returns home. The film is penned by Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller.



    Two polar opposites of the horror genre have dropped new trailers. The Ari Aster directed Midsommar has released it’s second full trailer. The trailer highlights the horror that can be present in a bright blue sky. Also, Wild Eye Releasing has released a trailer for their upcoming film Clownado. The trailer showcases all the B-Movie schlock that could be present in a film about clown tornadoes. The movie drops on VOD this summer.



    Robert Pattinson Cast as The Batman



    Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has found their new Batman. The site reports that Robert Pattinson (Good Time, Twilight) will dawn the cape and cowl for The Batman. Pattinson will replace Ben Affleck as the caped crusader in the Matt Reeves film. The casting news has fans split. Some fans are going as far as to sign a petition to remove him from the role. Casey gives his entire thoughts on the casting and the film in the podcast.

  • The Best Pets in Movies
    Welcome to the Back Lot 605 podcast! Each episode we discuss the movie news and box office from the past week. This week’s episode includes the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, a new Hellraiser reboot, and the It: Chapter 2 trailer. Also, our main topic for the week includes the much anticipated discussion of our favorite pets in movies!     The Box Office



    Avengers: Endgame comes at number one for the 3rd week in a row. The number two highest grossing film of all time pulls in over $63 million this past weekend. Detective Pikachu comes in at a close second with $58 million in it’s opening weekend. The Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway comedy The Hustle rounds off the top three with $13.5 million.



    Comic Book Movie News



    Tom Holland introduces this new Spider-Man: Far From Home that comes 2 weeks after the release of Avengers: Endgame. The trailer introduces a world without Tony Stark, the multiverse, and Mysterio as a superhero. 



    We also have some comic book movie casting news this week. Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) is in talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will possibly see a familiar face added to the cast. Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy) is in talks to join this DC Extended Universe film.



    Horror Movie News



    David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) has been tapped to write a new script a reboot the Hellraiser franchise. For the first time since 1996’s Hellraiser: Bloodline, Pinhead and the Cenobites will be on the big screen.



    Also, the hit heavy metal horror comedy Deathgasm will be getting a sequel from director Jason Lei Howden. No release date for either film has been announced.



    The It: Chapter 2 trailer has dropped. The follow up to the 2017 hit film will see the “Loser Club” return to Derry 27 years after their original encounter with the evil Pennywise. 



    The News



    We also discuss the possibility of another Matrix film, a Cypher Fast and Furious spinoff, and the new trailer for the Judy Garland biopic starring Renee Zellweger titled Judy. Finally, we take a look at Disney’s official release date schedule following the Fox buyout.

    The Box Office



    Avengers: Endgame continues to break box office records with a $145 million second weekend domestically. Endgame has now surpassed $2.1 billion at the worldwide box office, passing James Cameron’s Titanic as the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time. The 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now only $600 million away from passing Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time.



    The News



    Peter Mayhew Passes Away at 74



    Legendary Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew has passed away at the age of 74. Mayhew is the man behind everyone’s favorite Wookie, Chewbacca. He was brought back in 2015 for a final appearance as Chewbacca in Episode 7 – The Force Awakens.



    First Look at James McAvoy in It: Chapter 2



    The first official image from It: Chapter 2 has been released by New Line Cinema. The image includes our first look at James McAvoy’s character of Bill Denbrough. The sequel to the 2017 smash hit arrives to theaters September 6.



    Sonic the Hedgehog Trailer Sparks Fan Controversy






    Paramount Pictures releases the first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog. The film stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as Sonic. After the release of the trailer, fan outcry has caused the filmmakers to go back to the drawing board on the character design for Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to hit theaters this November.



    Crawl Trailer




    From the director of High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes comes the latest horror film from Alexandre Aja. Crawl follows a woman trapped in a flooding house with killer alligators. Crawl arrives to theaters July 12.



    The Main Topic



    The Schmuck Club breaks down all the spoilers for Avengers: Endgame. The epic conclusion to the first saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially the biggest film of the decade.     Welcome to the 25th episode of the Back Lot 605 podcast! Each week we break down the box office and the latest movie news from the last week. Casey and Brian are joined by resident member of the Schmuck Club, Blake Ginithan from Midwest Movie Talk. The trio discuss their favorite remakes of all time!



    The Box Office



    The Curse of La Llorona tops the box office for the week with an impressive $26.5 million opening. In it’s third week out Shazam! takes the number spot with over $17 million, taking it’s total domestic gross to $121 million. Easter weekend’s top three is rounded out by the faith based drama Breakthough, which pulled in $11 million.



    The News



    John Cena has entered talks to join the James Gunn directed The Suicide Squad. Cena would join the likes of Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Viola Davis in the next entry in the DC Extended Universe. What are your thoughts on which character Cena could play?



    The latest trailer for Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw has dropped. The trailer showcases the family dynamic for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. Hobbs and Shaw hits the big screens August 2nd.



    Train to Busan actor Ma Dong-seok joins the cast of The Eternals. Dong-seok joins this The Marvel Cinematic Universe film that includes Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani in undisclosed roles.



    The remake of Child’s Play receives it’s first full trailer. The trailer reveals the first line of dialogue from the new Chucky, Mark Hamill. The Aubrey Plaza lead film hit’s theaters June 21.

    Welcome to the premiere South Dakota movie podcast! Each episode we discuss the box office and biggest news stories from the week! In honor of Star Wars Celebration we take a look at a week full of Star Wars news as well as ranking the entire Star Wars saga!

    Shazam! reigns supreme in it’ second weekend out raking in $25 million. The Regina Hall lead comedy Little comes in at number two with over $15 million. The remake of Hellboy disappointing with a $12 million opening.



    The News



    Disney+ has announced that it’s services will start at $6.99 a month for subscribers. One of the first new series coming to Disney+ is Star Wars The Mandalorian. During celebration the first official images of Carl Weathers and Gina Carano in the new series.




    Another Disney+ series set in the Star Wars galaxy has been announced with returning cast members. Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will be returning as Cassian Andor or K-2SO in a Cassian series.



    Finally, the big reveal from Star Wars Celebration was the release of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer. The trailer includes our first look at the returning Billy Dee Williams as the most suave man in the galaxy, Lando Calrissian. The trailer also revealed the return of Emperor Palpatine to the Star Wars saga.





    Ranking the Star Wars Saga



    This week the Schmuck Club breaks down one of the greatest franchises in all of cinema, Star Wars. Are the boys prequel haters or apologists? Is Rogue One secretly the best of the series? Listen to find out what the crew thinks of every Star Wars film to date!

  • Ranking the DC Extended Universe

    This week on the Back Lot 605 podcast we are joined by Marvin Salguero from Wednesday Comics. Wednesday Comics is a comic book podcast based in Sioux Falls, SD. With a resident comic book expert on the show The Schmuck Club will be ranking the entire DC Extended Universe in honor of the release of Shazam!



    The Box Office



    Shazam! pulls in over $50 in it’s opening weekend to take the number one spot at the box office. Pet Sematary opens with $25 million on a meager $21 million budget. Rounding off the top five is Captain Marvel, who has earned over $1 billion globally.



    The News



    Vin Diesel teases on his social media that he will be involved with James Cameron’s Avatar sequels. Kumail Nanjiani will star in Any Person, Living or Dead. Described as a scientist who builds a time machine to bring back historical figures to solve the world’s problems. Nanjiani is also in talks to join Angelina Jolie in Marvel Studios The Eternals film.



    The first trailer for the Todd Phillips directed Joker has been released. The Joaquin Phoenix lead film showcases Batman’s greatest foe like we have never seen him before. In further DC news, James Gunn confirms that The Suicide Squad is neither a reboot or sequel to the original film. Idris Elba will play a new character with Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Margot Robbie all in talks to return.



    Ranking the DC Extended Universe



    Casey and Brian breakdown the Back Lot 605 ranking of the 7 DCEU films. Marvin joins the duo to discuss the best, and worst, films in the DC universe. Could Man of Steel break the groups top five? Which film will take that coveted number one spot?

    The News



    The news for the week was horror filled as we received the first full trailers for both Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Annabelle Comes Home. Scary Stories is based on book series of the same name that is most known for it’s horrifying illustrations. The illustrations come to life August 9th when Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark hits theaters.



    Annabelle Comes Home brings back Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson to The Conjuring Universe. Gary Dauberman will jump into the director’s chair after writing all of The Conjuring spinoff films. Annabelle comes home June 28.



    Blumhouse has announced that they will be remaking the 1990’s cult classic The Craft. Zoe Lister-Jones-Jones has been tapped to direct the remake. Mark Hamill has announced that he will voice Chucky in the Child’s Play remake. Lastly, Angelina Jolie is in talks to join Marvel’s The Eternals.



    The Main Topic: Tim Burton Movies



    We breakdown the entire career of acclaimed director Tim Burton. The Schmuck Club talks their favorites from the quirky director including Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hallow, and Edward Scissorhands. Also, Casey rants about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Kayla and Brian defend Alice in Wonderland.

  • Sports Movies: Movie Madness

    In honor of March Madness we set up a bracket style tournament to determine the greatest sports movie of all time! What are some of your favorite sports movies? Did we miss any that should have been in the tournament?



    The Box Office



    Jordan Peele’s Us tops the box office with a $70 million opening. Us opens as the highest grossing original horror film ever. Captain Marvel stays strong with $35 million in it’s third weekend out. The Brie Larson lead film has now grossed over $300 million domestically.



    The News



    The first trailer for the live action Dora the Explorer leaves us wondering “Who was this movie for?” Nickelodeon Movies’ Dora and the Lost City of Gold hits theaters August 2nd.



    Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood dropped it’s first trailer. The trailer shows glimpses of Margot Robbie’s Sharon Tate and Damon Herriman’s Charles Manson. The film hits the big screen July 26th.



    Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) has been cast as Prince Adam aka He-Man in Masters of the Universe. Will this film ever get off the ground? Only time will tell.



    Unicorn Store marks Brie Larson’s directorial debut. The film sees her reunite with Captain Marvel co-star Samuel L. Jackson in this Netflix original film.



    Bill and Ted Face the Music has been confirmed by stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves. After a nearly 30 year hiatus Bill and Ted will reunite on the big screen in the summer of 2020.



    Sports Movies: The Main Topic



    The Schmuck Club battles it out to determine the greatest sports movie of all time. Could Moneyball top Field of Dreams? Could Space Jam pull an upset and win the entire thing? Listen and find out!

Avengers: Endgame drops a retrospective trailer and gives us a first look at Captain Marvel’s interactions with the team. James Gunn has been reinstated as the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.



    Modern Horror: The Main Topic



    Our main discussion delves into modern day horror. We begin with the first film from horror juggernaut Blumhouse, Paranormal Activity.
