Back Pocket

Ruby is joined by President of the Science Journalists Association of Australia, award-winning video games journalist, and her friend Jackson Ryan to talk about their very different experiences working in video games journalism, how it compares now versus "back then", and if people really want to read AI-written choppy sloppy.

Ruby is joined by gaming YouTuber and resident silly billy Snugboy to talk about the seemingly endless business of remakes, remasters, re-imaginings, re-releases, (re)ports, and maybe more! While this IS called The Definitive Edition of this podcast episode, PocketBuds does reserve the right to remake this episode to include a new hat, and re-release it at an exorbitant price.

Ruby is joined by her boss and bestie Gus Ronald to talk about the creative world of character customisation in video games. From making a character so gorgeous that even the gods above struggle to avert their gaze, all the way to constructing a horrible monstrosity that could get you sent straight to gamer jail, we've got you covered.

Ruby is joined by co-host of ETTO, former Good Game personality, current editor for Back Pocket and ongoing friend and coworker to Ruby, Will Yates, to talk about a topic that he is EXTREMELY well-versed in: the realm of games based around the BBC's longest-running sci-fi series, Doctor Who. Join the two as they discuss the rare few Doctor Who games that are actually not bad, the vast majority that got it incredibly wrong, and what video game genre Doctor Who would best work with. Allons-y!

Ruby is joined by the hosts of Thumb Cramps, Plumbing the Death Star, and Baseless Speculation, as well as two of her most favourite dumb boys Joel Duscher & Jackson Baly, to discover their love of video game easter eggs. Considering there's not really such a thing as an 'expert' on video game easter eggs, it only made sense that we ended up going with these fellas.

Ruby is joined by Powerhouse games curator Chloe Appleby and variable media conservator Chris Redman to discuss the ups, downs, and all arounds of video game preservation, and what Australia's museum world is doing to keep gaming's history intact. Apparently, putting a copy of Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training in a jar of vinegar is NOT a viable way to preserve a game. Who knew?
