Inspired by Chris Ryan from the Ringer, we’ll be discussing fictional presidents from movies and television shows. We’ll be looking at the era from 1996-1999 to figure out which fictional president would best serve the fictional United States.
We’re joined on this episode by our good friend James Nani, a tax policy reporter for Law 360. Join us as we discuss the policies and actions of the presidents from the greatest era of movie presidents!
Sure, we spend a lot of our time talking about movies and music, but we enjoy sports, too.
Beam is obsessed with mixed martial arts, and Corey politely obliges his weird fascination with violence. And while 2020 was a weird year for sports in general, there were some really amazing moments in MMA.
Listen in as we discuss and rank some of the best wars that took place inside of the cage and give praise to the fighters who participated in them. Because we sure as hell couldn’t do what these athletes do.
I mean, we played soccer...
This week’s episode is a continuation of last week’s conversation about the best music of 2020. Ya know, I never understood all the end of year review stuff coming out during mid-December. Like, the year isn’t over, are we right? But, we digress.
We’re joined on this episode by Kim Neaton, a local music aficionado who worked a DJ at EQX and currently works in the local live music industry with Greg Bell at Gutherie/Bell Productions. Then Beam and Corey discuss their own personal favorite records from the past 12 months (well, kinda. Corey flips the rules as he is one to do).
With two new songs out in the world (that absolutely rip) and their Online Telethon Extravaganza to Raise Sixty Nine Dollars for the Members of Every Time I Die on Saturday, we proudly present our top three Every Time I Die songs of all time.
We are joined again by the one and only Duke of Shreddage, Mike Pellegrino from LATEWAVES.
We also reveal our favorite ETID riff of all time, our favorite Keith Buckley lyric of all time and the best ETID breakdown of all time.
Is this the greatest Back Porch Podcast episode of all time? We don’t know. But we do know we needed to use “of all time again.” So, enjoy the conclusion to our series on the Top 5 Every Time I Die Songs and let us know what your list looks like!
Way back in April, Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley revealed they had recorded 16 of the best songs they’d ever written.
When we heard that, we decided that an Every Time I Die episode was in order. So we sent out the bat signal to the Duke of Shreddage, Mike Pellegrino from LATEWAVES.
On this episode we discuss our own relationship with Every Time I Die and how we came to love their music. From there we discuss our desert island Every Time I Die record and the three quintessential elements of an Every Time I Die song. Finally, in this episode we’ll reveal our and number five and number four picks from the Every Time I Die top five.
Tune back in next week as we round out the top five with our top three Every Time I Die songs.
After ranking our favorite David Fincher films ahead of the release of the acclaimed director's 11th feature length film, Mank, we made sure to watch his new movie the day it was released.
While watching with our good friend Joe Donlon, we decided to have a beer. Then another beer. Then another beer after that. Then one more beer after that. And, well... you get the idea.
When we were done, we had another beer and got on the mics to give our instant reaction and discuss where this movie fell within our rankings of David Fincher films.
We even were able to convince Joe to join in on the discussion. Not sure how we were able to accomplish that.
Anyway, spoliers ahead, of course. But to avoid any of that, check out Mank on Netflix.
This Friday, December 4th, David Fincher’s 11th feature length film Mank is being released via Netflix. Fincher has long been one of our favorite filmmakers so we decided that ahead of this momentous occasion we should take a look back at his filmography from 1992’s Alien 3 all the way through 2014’s Gone Girl.
We’re joined by our friend and filmmaker John Yost from Fifth Column Features to discuss Mank, Fincher’s various filmmaking techniques, and to rank all of his films up into this point.
So before you pop your popcorn and sit down to watch Mank this weekend, join us on the back porch, crack a beer, and let’s take a look at the career of one of the greatest American filmmakers.
Today’s episode is the final installment in our three-part series on magnetic movie villains (seriously, neither Magneto, nor Insane Clown Posse will be on this list). We'll discuss our number 2 and number 1 picks, though Beam and Corey do have an overlap in this episode so they will be discussing 3 total movies.
Once again, we’ll be joined by our friend and filmmaker Micah Khan whose work has been featured on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network. He also recently directed an experimental short film, Meetcute on Danceworld, which David Benioff, co-creator of HBO’s Game of Thrones, said he’d “never seen anything quite like it before. I was smiling the whole way through. It’s fresh, original, and it kicks ass.”
Spoilers abound in the episodes ahead so proceed with caution if you haven’t seen these films.
