  • Write Fast or Die in this New Publishing World
Should you write more than one book a year? How many should you write? If you write more than one book, does that automatically mean your writing sucks? Who decides what a "good" book is? How do you define success as an author?
These are some of the questions Kori will discuss on today's show.
Read the latest Author Earnings Report. There's good news if you're an indie author producing e-books even without an ISBN.
Quote of the day: The publishing world is very timid. Readers are much braver. - Kiran Desai, award-winning author of  The Inheritance of Loss.

  • Author Heather Voight Joins Kori on the Back Porch
“[Passionate Crusaders] shows that the efforts of an honorable and courageous few can create small steps to change history. This detailed, well-told, and inspiring story will be of value to students of the Holocaust, American history, and human rights.” –From the Foreword by Dr. Leon Stein, Professor Emeritus of History and Education Director Emeritus, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
Passionate Crusaders tells the gripping story of a few righteous Americans who sought to do what many thought impossible in 1944—save Jews who had not yet been murdered in the Holocaust.
By January 1944, Treasury Department officials Henry Morgenthau, John Pehle, and Josiah DuBois had already convinced President Franklin Roosevelt to create the War Refugee Board, an agency with the authority to provide rescue and relief for Jews and other groups persecuted by the Nazis.

  • Mystery Author, Max E. Stone Joins Kori on the Back Porch
Max doesn't remember ever not creating a story, pen or no pen. A writer and lover of books since the age of nine, Max first set pen to page as a hobby, constructing stories that were anything but fit for children. Entertaining classmates while simultaneously concerning surrounding adults with blood-ridden tales of gory mysteries and heavy suspense that "just came to mind", Max, with the help of family and the encouraging words of an inspiring fifth grade teacher, continued to develop this gift.
Little was it known at the time, but said gift would become a lifeline.
From horrific trauma  in Max's teen years, writing played an instrumental part in the difficult recovery and the  Warrens, Bennetts, and Johnsons, three interconnected families all with issues, mysteries, and secrets that threaten their livelihood and lives, were born.
Though relatively new to the publishing game, Max reads everything and everyone and relishes the journey, learning something new each day.

  • Author Lorraine Pestell Joins Kori on the Back Porch
DUE TO AUDIO DISRUPTIONS THIS EPISODE WAS SHORTENED. LORRAINE WAS INVITED TO CONTUNUE OUR DISCUSSION VIA THE BACK PORCH WRITER BLOG. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
Lorraine Pestell was born in London and has lived and worked as an IT professional all over the world, including the UK, several European capitals, the USA and Singapore, before moving to Melbourne, Australia, for the turn of the millennium.  Having suffered from chronic clinical depression since childhood, and later diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after a violent marriage and other challenging events, she turned to creative writing as therapy and to escape from the world.
A passionate advocate for mental health awareness and rational suicide, Lorraine has two main goals for her writing:  first, to inspire fellow sufferers to rise above their symptoms and make a success of their lives; and second, to encourage non-sufferers to tolerate, support and even love those afflicted with mental illness in their quest to live a "normal" life.
The six-part contemporary fiction serial, "A Life Singular", is truly Lorraine's life's work, starting out as an adolescent romance in her early teens.  It has since become six long books exploring the human mind and social justice, wrapped in the universal theme of love and our endless fascination for celebrity.  Parts One to Four are available now, with Part Five due for release in March 2016.

  • Debut Fantasy Author, Geoffrey Storm Joins Kori on the Back Porch
Geoffrey Storm was born and raised in Michigan, in an old, suburban neighborhood he calls "his Shire." There are no sidewalks, and no traffic, just endless lawns, ponds, and trees. It's almost another world entirely. And to him, it is. Inspired by the fantastic worlds seen in Star Wars, Zelda, and Kingdom Hearts, Geoffrey created one of his own in his backyard. An escape from reality. A world he now wishes to share with you.
Geoffrey is a graduate of Michigan State University's English program, with focusses in Creative Writing, Sociology, and Linguistics. Growing up, he never thought he'd be a writer. Maybe an actor, an artist, or even an architect. But now he's put all those dreams, all his knowledge, and all his heart into one idea. One world. One story. Progeny of Gods: Vertuém Destiny
