Backstage Talk

Welcome to the Latinx in Musical Theatre Special Finale! 👏🏻

This week we are honored to interview one of our all-time idols: the incredible Sergio Trujillo! 🔥

Sergio is a Tony Award-winning director, choreographer, and performer whose work on Broadway and Off-Broadway has been linked to his Latin roots from the start. 🤩

With On Your Feet!, Viva Broadway!, Next To Normal, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, and many other shows under his belt, Sergio has been a Latin icon in our industry. ✨

We will never forget his Tony speech, where he talked directly to every single future artist from Latin America, reassuring them that they can too get to the biggest stages in the world, validating our dreams. This was the perfect opportunity to close this first edition of Latins in Musical Theatre. 💙

We are honored to have had 30 incredible and talented artists during this season. We cannot wait to keep showcasing our friends and family. 🌎

Mateo Lizcano is one of the youngest performers we've had on Backstage Talk, and he's here to share his story on one of Broadway's favorite contemporary shows. 🤩

He is part of the Dear Evan Hansen family as an Evan alternate and Connor/Jared understudy, and he knows how his Hispanic Heritage has influenced his acting. 👏🏻

Personally, I am happy that the Dear Evan Hansen team took into consideration Mateo's heritage and applied it to his characters and his process; that's the way it should be everywhere! 🔥
