This poem was written as a part of the Lent Poem a Day Challenge in 2023 and hosted by Ben Squires (IG: @bicspics2020). I lasted all of one day. Here’s Ash Wednesday’s poet inspired by the word, “phonograph.” It draws in part from 2 Peter 1:18, which reads, “we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.”
The scribbled voice of spinning sound Rings with words,in words writ down The voice which twelve apostle’s knew The voice which all creation too Shakes and shudders, quickens still, When you sound and speak your will Praise, sleeping rocks and drowsy trees Whose bare branches wait to leave Wave your limbs praise with bird Sing Lauds you heavens, declare the word And skies his work, the depths of sea Till every creature praises Thee Stars which shine when called by name The voice which writes on hearts in flame Fuels love, impassions, speaks with peace Phono graph your Word in me You who shapes the heart of kings Write love on mine, make me sing. © Randall Edwards 22 February 2023
