In this episode of Hard Rock and Heavy Hops we delve into one quarter of the Big Four (and my personal favorite... sometimes) Megadeth! Fronted by Dave Mustaine after being kicked out of Metallica he helped lead the group head on into thrashdom. Get ready to turn it up! This week, we wrap up our time with the legendary Dee Snider! We will see the rise and stardom of Twisted Sister, Dee will go to Washington, the band will tour, and eventually fall apart... plus we head out to Ohio to grab a beer!

This weeks episode was researched through Dee Sniders autobiography "shut up and give me the mic!" 

The first of a two part episode this week! We explore the life of Dee Snider and the band Twisted Sister. They toured heavily in the New York/New Jersey Tri-State area in the late seventies early eighties and took quite some time to get off the ground despite having a ferocious following and a dedicated fan base. Part one outlines Dee Sniders early life and foray into music, the formation of Twisted Sister, and their early highs and lows. I found Dee to be an incredibly interesting person to read about, and hopefully you feel the same! Grab a beer and get ready to rock!  

When it comes down to the creation of heavy metal there are a couple places you can turn to look and no, under a rock is not one of them. Early metal brings thoughts of Zeppelin or Sabbath, but for true heavy metal you want to turn to Judas Priest and their larger than life frontman Rob Halford. This weeks episode takes us over the pond to England where we learn about the early life of Rob Halford as well as how he got to be who he is today. We'll also learn about some of his early bands, how he and Priest pushed the boundaries of what metal was, and throw in a couple of interview clips from the interview I was able to conduct with Rob in late 2020. Buckle up because this is our longest episode yet!

Episode 2: This week takes us into the life and times of one of the (in my opinion) stranger characters in rocks expansive history: Frank Zappa. In this episode we focus on his early life as well as his very busy albeit short musical career. I’m especially excited about this episode because Frank Zappa is not only one of my favorite musicians but also an artist both my dad and I can appreciate. After we give a run down of Frank we’ll head off to the windy city for this episodes tasty beer review. Let’s have some fun!
