In 1997, Shaquille O' Neill was on top of the world. He was one of the most famous basketball players in the country, he'd won gold at the 1996 Olympics, had 3 rap records, and a film in which he played a genie titled Kazaam. While the albums and film weren't massive successes, it didn't stop him from jumping on another film opportunity, 1997's DC Comics adaptation STEEL! He plays John Henry Irons, a weapons developer for the US military, who retires after an accident and has to don a suit of armor to stop an evil Judd Nelson from selling secretly developed weapons to street gangs. With the help of his friends Shaft and Annabeth Gish, he battles street crime in spectacularly stupid fashion.

This week's episode is about one of our favorite movies and it's a doozy! FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) is obsessed with bringing down his nemesis and terrorist Castor Troy (Nic Cage) after Troy killed his son in an attempt on Archer's life. After some sci-fi gobbeldy gook, Cage and Travolta swap faces and lives and the heat is on in this classic John Woo action flick featuring some great over-the-top acting from both stars as well as some killer action setpieces including a high speed boat chase, which we have quite the debate about.

Featuring a who's who of future stars including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Key Huy Quan, Corey Feldman and Joey Pants! Seven dumb little shitbirds find a map to hidden pirate treasure and go off in pursuit of it, battling with criminals, traps and monsters along the way. The octopus was really scary!

It's not a secret that Jack loves Brendan Fraser, so his Mental Health pick for this month is 2000's comedic BEDAZZLED directed by Harold Ramis of Ghostbusters fame. Brendan Fraser is desperate to gain the attention of his beautiful co-worker, so he strikes a deal with the Devil, played by Elizabeth Hurley, in which he will exchange his soul for seven wishes. As you can imagine, the wishes don't go well. This feel-good comedy is kind of the definition of a Mental Health movie, so tune in to hear us chat all about it.

With the passing of Val Kilmer, Derrick decided to pivot his Mental Health choice this month to one of his favorite Kilmer films, 1995's HEAT, directed by Michael Mann. The ultimate heist movie, featuring the first on-screen appearance of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro together. It's a very long movie, with no wasted moments, a deep cast, and some of the best sound design that's ever been committed to film.

Whitney has been riding us about seeing WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE for nearly the entire time we've been doing the show, so we're finally getting to it as her pick for Mental Health month! Directed by Todd Solondz, this film follows middle schooler Dawn Weiner as she faces constant harassment and bullying from other students, her siblings, and even her own mother. This film is planted firmly in the mid-90s with a lot of "f" and "r" bombs, but we manage to find our way around it somehow.

In our first year of the podcast, we did an entire month of Michael Bay films for May and called it "It's Gonna Be Bay". Well, we learned from that experience, which was very trying on our mental health, so we vowed never to do that again. Since then, we have done one Michael Bay movie per year on the last Monday before May, and this year is no exception. We're finally discussing one of Bay's only truly good films, THE ROCK from 1996, starring Sean Connery and a slew of "welcome backs" including Nic Cage, Ed Harris, William Forsythe, and Michael Biehn. Nic Cage is a mild-mannered virologist who is tasked with stopping Ed Harris and his band of disenfranchised Marines from dropping chemical bombs on San Francisco with the help of former SAS agent and 30-year prisoner Sean Connery. Time for badabooms and ratatats.

{BLEEP} sent in this request after he and Jack watched this movie a few months back, so we invited him back on to talk about it. Sinbad and Phil Hartman star in this "wrong man/mistaken identity" style 90's comedy that also served as Sinbad's first starring film role. Sinbad plays a sad sack conman trying to get rich quick who falls into debt with the mob and has to take over the identity of Phil Hartman's childhood friend to hide with Hartman's family in an affluent Philadelphia suburb. Of course, antics ensue, children are charmed and Sinbad solves everyone's problems but his own. This episode ends with a twist that you'll have to hear to believe!
