  • EP 11: Our Curriculum for Week Five Onwards - Part 2

In part two of our fifth and final class, we finalize the discussions had in the mentorship so far by answering questions about customer service, curriculum, branding, puppy evaluation, medication, and more. One of the points that we stress several times today is that this program is not about training puppies, but rather about empowering them to handle any situation they may encounter when they leave our facility. We speak about how best to showcase the development of your puppies and keep clients up to date with videos and pictures uploaded to platforms like YouTube and Flickr. This class covers the best ways to respond to many difficult behaviors such as bullying, avoidance, hyperactivity, and fear. We double down on previous points about exposing puppies to different people while also addressing some considerations around hygiene and medication for worms and other illnesses. Toward the end of the class, we talk about the centrality of good customer relations from a branding perspective and also speak to the many features you can expect from our app when it gets released. So, thank you all for joining us and we wish you all the best in your journey as Empowered Badass Breeders going forward!

As we move into our fifth class of the mentorship, we will be covering the curriculum that breeders should be following with their puppies from week five onwards. A major point we make early on is that it is extremely important to keep in sync with the program. Being behind or ahead of time by even a day or two can make a big difference to a puppy whose development occurs so rapidly during this period of its life. We get into all the considerations over the puppy’s environment, talk about tactile objects and surfaces, how to build confidence by using the dam in training, how to develop tolerance using different handling techniques, and more. Our class covers tips for puppy evaluation and a twelve-point scorecard that we use for all our puppies. You will hear our strategies around pairing owners with puppies who suit them, why we are so open to returns, and how to educate owners so that they are best equipped to continue training once the puppies leave our facility. Additionally, we cover our policy around health checks and vet clearances and speak about why it is important that all our owners need to worry about at their first vet visit is a wellness exam. Tune in today!

  • EP 8: Branding Yourself as a Breeder

Being a Badass breeder takes so much more than simply breeding dogs! Tune in today for class four of the series, focused on marketing your brand as a breeder. Hear how Jeanette came up with her brand and all of the work she has to do to maintain it. We find out about the heartbreaking story that resulted in Jeanette’s slogan (“healing hearts and changing lives through the power of the dog”), and why she has chosen to support the causes that she does. Jeanette also challenges you with three questions that are crucial in creating a vision and a mission and makes a convincing case for why breeders should be sharing on social media. Continuing the discussion around social media, Jeanette gives some great tips and tricks on what content to record, how to record it, and when and where to share it. She also talks us through dealing with the responses to her content on social media (from blocking haters, to inviting failure into your life and accepting that you will never be perfect!).
