In 2021, Colorado Springs Utilities opened the door to municipal internet by kicking off a huge build out to 250,000 homes. They're behind schedule and strangely behind budget, but they've already provided plenty of incentive for other public companies to get going. For some of us urbanists, car dependency in our city is something we see like a tornado swooping across our urban fabric. Colorado Springs council member Brandy Williams surprised everyone when city council announced that they were looking to dissolve the Old Colorado City Downtown Development Authority... including the Old Colorado City Downtown Development Authority! Without the funds to take meaningful actions while their mandated plan of development is still under review with the city, those who spent blood, sweat and tears putting it together are now scrambling to keep it alive.
