Brett is one of the most respected custom lure makers in the offshore fishing world, handcrafting trolling lures that have caught blue marlin, striped marlin, tuna, dorado, and other pelagic species across the globe. Inspired by the legendary Hawaiian lure makers, he combines traditional craftsmanship with years of experience on the water to create lures trusted by tournament teams and charter captains alike.

When he's not in the lure shop, Brett is at the helm of the Ohana, putting clients on everything from local Southern California gamefish to striped marlin and swordfish. His passion for big-game fishing, lure design, and sharing knowledge has made him a respected voice in the offshore community. Today we'll dive into what makes a great marlin lure, how lure design has evolved, stories from chasing billfish around the world, and the lessons he's learned from a lifetime on the water.

Known for her deep local knowledge and calm, no-nonsense guiding style, Karly specializes in salmon and halibut fishing around the islands’ rugged coastlines, tidal channels, and offshore grounds.

Raised around the ocean and immersed in the coastal lifestyle, she built her guiding career on a mix of practical seamanship, respect for the water, and an instinct for reading fish in constantly changing conditions. Clients who fish with her often highlight her ability to put them on fish consistently while also teaching them the “why” behind what’s happening on the water.

When she’s not running charters, Karly is focused on conservation-minded fishing practices and sharing the unique ecology of Haida Gwaii’s waters. Her approach blends adventure, education, and a strong connection to one of the most wild and storied fisheries in the world.

American Sea Fishing is owned by Ben Hervey-Murray – a USA international angler with over thirty years experience; from tournament success in saltwater and fresh, to guiding hundreds of clients and catching numerous trophy fish in California.

Ben started fishing for fun and entering tournaments around his hometown of Cambridge, UK in the 80s and 90s, soon moving on to saltwater targets and a career in media and fishing. After working as a reporter for Angling Times, sub-editor and digital editor of Angler’s Mail in the UK, and media manager in the tackle industry, he moved to the US and set up American Sea Fishing to share the amazing fishing opportunities the ocean offers. 

Ben is President of the USA Surf Fishing Team, and led his 14-strong team to silver in the 2024 Pan American Surf Fishing Championships in Costa Rica.
