Today, Ashley and I have conversation regarding the purpose of training. Specifically, we discuss the need to understand and educate yourself as to why you are pursuing specific goals, what is necessary to achieve those goals, and how to begin developing the self-awareness that is required to understand what you're actually pursuing.
If you've been training long enough, it's likely that you've evolved. Your mindset around training and nutrition may have changed, your training methodology probably changed, and your goals have definitely changed. It's okay to adopt and modify our behaviors, training, and nutritional regimens, but we need to understand the "why" behind those changes in order to determine our methods are appropriate, efficient, and effective.
Today, Ashley and I discuss specific performance goals. What does that mean? Put simply, performance goals are the physical movements, skills, and/or events that you wish to achieve. Whether it be getting a single Strict Pull-up, Box Jump, Rope Climb, Handstand Walk, or Snatch, at some point, virtually everyone establishes a performance goal on their health and fitness journey.
Ashley and I discuss the Why, When, and How of specific performance goals. Why do performance goals matter? When is it appropriate to pursue performance goals? Do you need special, movement-specific training programs? Etc.
We hope ya'll enjoy the episode! Should you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out on Instagram or Facebook. We would love to chat more about the subject!

On this episode of BPR, Ashley and I play "Deserted Island". We assume most are familiar with this game. It goes something like this, "If you were trapped on a deserted island, what are the five [insert topic/item] that you would bring with you?" Does this sound familiar? Ashley and I took this concept and applied it to various topics: food, kitchen appliances, spices/condiments, fitness equipment, and exercises. Essentially, we are brining ya'll our top five for each of those categories (i.e. our must-haves). Check it out and let us know your top five!
