Welcome back to Baltimore County Forever Podcast.  This is episode 142 and CLASS IS IN SESSION!! As Cousin Al (Aleem) is back this week for History class. He explains who Betsy Smith is, gives us the meaning of the term “field holler,” and discusses the African American Music and Migration class he took in college.  He also shares his family’s migration story between Macon, Georgia and Detroit.  So, it was only right that I have the Big Homie (my dad) join us to explain my family’s migration from the south to the north.

On the topic of migration, we talk about Master P bringing the New Orleans bounce sound to California, and how older generations exclude certain types of music from being classified as Hip-Hop.  Aleem also breaks down the one drop rule, and uses  artists like Slash from Guns N Roses and rapper Logic as examples of this principle.
