Ysabel's high school students grew up seeing police patrol their schoolyards, and began questioning their surveillance during the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement. Eager to bring others into the discussion and learn about police brutality beyond the U.S., they organized "International Solidarity Against Police and State Violence: Panel on Chicago, Mexico, and the Philippines," a conference that examined the universal effects of police brutality and state violence.
