Y2K was a computer bug that had the potential to shut down computers whenever the clock struck midnight New Years Eve 2000. Billions of dollars were spent to correct the issue. Even though a lot of time and money was being spent to correct the issue, it didn't stop the religious right from spreading hysteria that the world was going to end.
