  • The Flophouse Sessions 128 – Diamond Sharp
    As promised, it’s Diamond Sharp, from Portland Maine! They stopped by a looong time ago with Impossible Hair, and by the time we got around to mixing their session, they had broken up. I hate it when that happens.  We’ve grieved long enough. Let’s remember the good times we had.
    Song List:

    * I Got Love
    * Pigs
    * Harvest
    * Lost Job

  • The Flophouse Sessions 127 – Impossible Hair
    Impossible Hair (from Maryland) stopped in many moons ago while on tour with Diamond Sharp (guess who’s session is tomorrow!), and they both did very quick sessions. Fair warning: don’t let them lull to into a false sense of relaxation with the opening song.
    Song List:

    * Streets of Laredo
    * The Dog
    * Kettles
    * Sister Hand
    * Tambourines of Fury

  • The Flophouse Sessions 125 – Ryan Lee Crosby
    Ryan came in for a second session on a hot day in August, 2007. We left the windows open, so you can hear the occasional car, plane, or child passing by. I feel warmer just listening to this. He is hosting two nights in a row at PA’s Lounge this Friday and Saturday.
    Song List:

    * Old Lovers
    * Everyday Escape
    * Waiting Around to Die (Townes Van Zandt cover)
    * Nicolene
    * Rain
    * True Love Will Find You In The End (Daniel Johnston cover)

  • The Flophouse Sessions 124 – Jacob Smigel

    When we first started the Flophouse Sessions, we decided to hold on to sessions until the band was back in town. This is why we’re not doing that any more. Jacob came by over TWO YEARS ago during his tour with Deer Tick, who sits in on a few tunes here. Although he has been back in Boston with his other band, Las Vegas Club, since then, we’re still waiting for another eponymous appearance. In the meantime, take a listen to his truly original lyrical style and storytelling.
    Song List:

    * Hyperkeratosis
    * New Mexico
    * Call 911
    * Belly Rent
    * Broken Record

  • The Flophouse Sessions 123 – BOAT

    BOAT is a band from Seattle that sailed their way over a few weeks back. Get it? And they gave us a new theme song. I think we just might use it.
    Song List:

    * Band in Boston
    * Train By Train
    * Quickly and Quietly
    * Holding All of the Globes
    * Lobsters and Snakes
    * Four Beds for Boat

  • The Flophouse Sessions 122 – Doomstar

    Get ready for a month of a bazillion Flophouse Sessions! Starting it off…
    It seems like everyone’s been talking about Doomstar lately. Now you can too. I initially referred to them as a “math rock Flaming Lips.” But they’re really just so much more. They’re playing December 7th at the Milky Way.
    Song List:

    * Helicopter Pilot
    * The Kitchen Song
    * Beesland
    * Blue and Other Dark Colors
    * Light

  • The Flophouse Sessions 121 – Cory Branan

    Cory stopped by during his East Coast tour a few weeks ago. He’s pretty much exactly what a singer-songwriter should be.
    Song List:

    * The Tall Green Grass
    * Ballad of a Bad Man
    * Yesterday (Circa 88)
    * Survivor Blues
    * The Corner
