Banjo Hangout Newest 100 Clawhammer and Old-Time Songs

Played on my Sagmoen 10 7/8" pot , 24 3/4" scale with and Ashborn rim with a Dobson tone ring, a Renaissance head, Fielding tailpiece and GHS PF150 steel strings in double C tuning.

A multitrack recording of my slow and simple version of this Lynn Morris tune, where I'm playing clawhammer banjo (Enoch 12" Tradesman with Rickard Dobson tone ring, Double D), fiddle (low G tuned up to A), guitar (Martin HD-28), and bass. This version is more Old Time. As is always the case, better headphones/earbuds/speakers will do a better job of picking up the bass. Dedicated to an old high school friend (T. O'G.) of mine, who was among my first "guitar/folk bandmates" and who unfortunately passed away all too soon last year.

For the old-time Tune of the Week, 4/6/18, Blanche Coldiron comes fully to my attention -- a Kentucky musician who lived the rural life of work and generosity and leaves a quiet legacy that we come to know after her passing. Tally Ho is a 4-part tune that builds up to a gallant descending end. I'm playing this in double C tuning on a Mac Traynham Whyte Laydie openback.

My first recorded foray into 2-finger picking. Learned finger-picking styles many years ago, but never quite got over the hump with any of them. Pushing myself this year to do so. Magpie is TOTW for March 30, 2018, and I know the tune pretty well in clawhammer style so I figured I would give a shot in TFTL. I'm still working on a lot aspects of finger-picking (even pinches, smooth/even tone, timing) but I thought this was good enough to post as a first attempt without totally embarassing myself. Banjo is tuned gEADE ("Sandy River Belle tuning"). I'm excited to actually be breaking my barrier and doing this. More to come, and even better stuff, I hope.
