Banjo Hangout Newest 100 Clawhammer and Old-Time Songs

For the old-time Tune of the Week, March 23, 2018. Susannah Gal goes by other titles. This one comes from the duet CD of Tommy Jarrell and Fred Cockerham, both from the Round Peak, NC region. Their B part is unique, but they play it together and so it sounds great. Fred adds slides which I attempted to include, too. They must have had lots of fun playing together!

Janet Burton and I got to talking and decided we needed to collaborate on a tune, so this is what came out. I recorded my track, sent it to Janet, then she added in her tracks. We are playing in the key of C. I am playing lead on an Enoch Dobson (gCGCD), and Janet is playing backup on her Gold Tone cello banjo and harmony (starts half we through) on her Gold Tone mini "Plucky. Janet tuned both her banjos to open G (gDGBD).

For the old-time Tune of the Week, 3/9/18, Jimmy in the Swamp comes from the fiddle playing of Nebraska great Bob Walters. It's in the key of G and I'm playing in guitar tuning gDGBE. Most banjo players play it in G tuning.

Made this banjo duet recording with Ed Britt back in November, 2014. We still play it when we go busking in Harvard Square.

For the old-time Tune of the Week, 2/23/18, this version comes from Earl Collins, Missouri fiddler who moved to LA. He was at my guitar teacher's house one night for a jam and he encouraged me greatly as a budding banjo playing college student. My guitar teacher really got around -- Mary Ellen Clark just turned 90 and still plays and dances a bit. She taught me The Cat Came Back, which was about a yellow cat.

CH Guitar take on two Old Time tunes. Guitar is tuned CGCGCD with capo on 4th fret so E tuning.
