For the old-time Tune of the Week, this version comes from Owen Snake Chapman of Pike County, Kentucky. He learned it from Kenny Baker's father, Thaddeus. Mine is slowed-down and I can imagine going up a river cautiously in the wilderness. I play it in open G tuning on a Mac Traynham Whyte Laydie. Check out this week's TOTW for more information and links. http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/291188

Fiddlescratcher (David) from FHO on fiddle. Audio file (sans banjo) originally posted to the FHO Jukebox in 2008. CH banjo accompaniment overdubbed recently by Jack Beuthin. Thanks David for allowing me to share!

This has been one of the most popular tunes with old-time musicians for a long time and was the subject of the Tune of the Week a while back. This arrangement is first mine, then Kentucky fiddler Ed Haly's via Adam Hurt. My favorite version, which influences me in my arrangement, comes from bluegrass extrodinaire banjo player Craig Smith. He and Adam live within blocks from each other, so here they come together musically.

Cold Frosty Morn

An old favorite that I recently played on the radio.

For the old-time Tune of the Week, based on Kyle Creed playing and Brad Leftwich's Round Peak Style book. Lots of Galax licks in the A part and slides in the B part.

Kentucky fiddler John Salyer did the source recordings on both Lost Boy and Lost Girl. They're quite similar. The A parts differ, but the chordal flavor is the same and together they make a natural medley. Bruce Molsky recorded a CD with the title Lost Boy. Adam Hurt's Lost Girl on piano from his Insight CD inspired me to work on it.
