Hip hop has never been a stranger to expression. Pretty much since the beginning, rappers have been talking about things going on around them and events occurring in their lives. For years we've seen the more "mainstream" rappers basically trying to one up one another by trying to be "harder" than their peers. However, as time has gone by, we've seen a shift to rappers being more open about their mental health while peeling back these layers of hypermasculinity. From Biggie and The Geto Boys to Atmosphere to Juice WRLD and Lil Peep, hip hop artists have expressed their mental health issues, which is a good thing to see since the genre is filled with overly masculine themes.

With the release of his debut posthumous album, Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, Pop Smoke opened the eyes of many with his music. Just over the weekend, social media has been abuzz with people taking a more wholesome and introspective look at Pop Smoke's work. Although he was only really around in the music world for a couple of years, he was still able to make an impact.

The BET Awards aired last night (June 28, 2020), and as a long time viewer, I have some thoughts. The first part of this episode will be touching on the performances that happened at the show, while the second part will talk about the awards themselves and how I feel about that.
As usual there's also a video version of the podcast here: https://youtu.be/9qqkiOF0M9Q
There's been a lot of discussion online about whether or not RMR is an industry plant. This is a conversation that people bring up frequently, usually whenever someone just comes up out of nowhere and gains a lot of attention and popularity. This week I discuss the rumors of industry plants and whether they're a necessity or not.

This week I discuss why Run The Jewels works, and how important the collaborations between rappers and producers are. Especially when it comes to consistency in an album.

This May has been longer than most, meaning we got five weeks of music releases. This week we discuss the top albums of May 2020, as well as the music that I've been listening to as well.
I linked my Spotify account to Last.fm to get an idea of what I've been listening to this month, and then plugged that into http://www.tapmusic.net/lastfm/ to get the grid of music.

With the release of RTJ4 (Run The Jewels 4) fast approaching, I felt it would be fitting to give you listeners a brief history lesson. Run The Jewels formed and dropped their first album in 2013, but both Killer Mike and El-P have had successful solo careers prior to the formation of the group. In this episode you'll learn a bit of their backstory, as well as an overall look at Run The Jewels up til this point.
