David Hess was living the life of up-and-coming major league pitcher until his life took an unfortunate turn for the worse in 2021 - a cancer diagnosis. Since then Hess has staged an up and down battle against the disease, culminating in some very good news over just the last few days. Hess joins Bradfo to talk about the inspirational story, the lessons that came with it and how he views potentially returning to the big leagues. It's the kind of podcast that will offer next-level perspective.

With teams deciding which minor leaguers they are willing to expose to the Rule 5 Draft in early December, it is a good time to hear from one player who might be living that life - Mets pitching prospect Mike Vasil. Vasil spent the entire season in Triple-A in 2024 after going to the Futures Game the year before. It is a worthy exercise considering players like Vasil often ultimately made a difference on a team's big league roster after being selected - as was evidenced by Justin Slaten, Ryan Fernandez and Mitch Spence.

Will Venable no doubt has his work cut out for himself as the new manager for the White Sox, but he has a plan, approach and mentality that could send Chicago back down the right road. Venable puts it all on display when sitting down with Bradfo and White Sox superfan Courtney Finnicum. There is reminiscing about Will's hoop showdown with current Lakers coach JJ Redick, key memories of growig up around his baseball-playing father, and what he has said to potential trade candidate Garrett Crochet. It's some great perspective from a manager in a very unique position.

Many thought Craig Counsell's $8 million-a-year deal with the Cubs last season was going to make managers' salaries skyrocket. Since then, however, the closest anyone has come is Alex Cora's deal that pays him just more than $7 million per season. Other than that, there isn't a manager who makes as much as $5 million. With the likes of Dave Roberts and Aaron Boone heading into the final years of their deals, will there be someone who eclipses Counsell, or will that agreement remain an outlier. Bradfo catches up with longtime baseball writer and author Scott Miller to tackle the topic.

Longtime baseball writer Scott Miller - the author of the upcoming book 'SKIPPER: Why baseball managers matter and always will' - joins Bradfo to look at the value of the position of managers these days compared to more simpler times. It's different, but no less important, as Dave Roberts displayed throughout his World Series run. The guys reflect on how the role has changed, and how the financial landscape in paying them may or may not be altered by the historic Craig Counsell contract. It's a great conversation about a fascinating subject.

With the interested teams having put their best feet forward in meetings with the coveted free agent, Bradfo joins Jeff Joyce and Mike Stanton on MLB Network Radio to breakdown the pursuit of Soto. The guys take a deep dive into the Red Sox' approach to both Soto and this offseason as a whole, comparing it to what has transpired in recent go-rounds with John Henry and Co.

With Chris Sale starting to pile up the postseason awards, it's a great time to revisit an important conversation the pitcher had with Bradfo at the beginning of spring training, looking forward to his first year with the Braves.
