For episode 22, we shared some time with the highly decorated and always busy, The Remyz. The Remyz bring a fusion of funk, R&B, and pop to their project, and are constantly evolving within their own sounds. Born from the city’s cultural arts and jazz programs, the boys went from skipping band class to starting a band – performing 156 shows in 2019 alone!. In this episode, we talk about the beginning of the Remyz, their most recent work “Zone”, their countless battle of the band wins, their Paper Water cosign and what that holds for their future.

INVT stands for innovate, which is what Luca and Delbert specialize in when planning a rollout. They mention that they want fans to be able to cut out pages of their MUNDOS book, hang them up on the wall, and directly be able to interact with the people listening to their music - similar to the 90's. Being notable tastemakers in Miami, INVT talks about recreating the club scene during the quarantine in the comfort of their own home (and those of their listeners), the concept of authenticity in artwork and the role it plays in the community here in Miami, and how their worldly endeavors translate through their work. The boys share an attitude of "we do what we want" and refuse to play by the rules—a philosophy that has yet to prove them wrong.

Based Miami's second show on Dublab features a glimpse into the mind of Suzi Analogue: singer, songwriter, beatmaker, and creator of Never Normal Records. The show consists of an interview highlighting the future of how music will look and feel in our ever changing world while giving listeners a taste of Suzi's latest project  + other tracks featured on her label.

Jordie and Cate ask Suzi about the art of a co-sign, gender as a construct in music, her songwriting journey: providing a feeling you can access, what it's like to be active in the Miami community - "a night out in Miami", and so much more. First show on our new station: dublab! We are excited since this opens so many doors and will help put Miami artists on the national map. There is no better representation of the Miami music scene than Paperwater. Eddy and Daygee of Paperwater hop on the airwaves to discuss how they plan on expanding their mark on Miami's music and cultural scene, what they've been up to during the big Q, and an hour-long emotionally charged mix. Not only do they mix and completely produce their own recordings, but they have thrown parties for several years and created a collective that represents some of Miami's most interesting, left of center artists. Their long-term goal is to keep creating in Miami in a way where the world can Wikipedia their collective and see loads of familiar names and recording styles. To Eddy and Daygee, music does not belong in a box, neatly labeled and filed away under the appropriate Beatport genre tab. To Paperwater, music is universal and constantly evolving. Like them, it should be allowed to test limits and change perspectives. 

We had an amazing time talking to Eddy & Daygee and have only heard the most amazing things about them, their label Wet Paper Recs, and their agency Half-Full. This episode is with Miami's special gem, @Coffintexts!  Alex is aproducer / Dj who has been actively working under the name Coffintexts, involved in several unique styles of music. Prior to quarantine, she was consistently playing eclectic events in the area, and preparing for a now postponed show with iiipoints. She is currently working on an electronic project that is going to be released this summer, in addition to some exciting collaborations! We spoke to her about every corner + niche of Miami she's played and how important it is to use your platform during this time. 

She grew up in Miami to a healthy mix of metal, hip-hop and Peruvian ballads. She was able to connect with other tastemakers in Miami and talks to us about her mentors and label-mates Paperwater on WetPaper Records. We love this quote where "COFFIN was found hiding out at a local Sam Ash store, practicing on cdj’s years before this technically talented dj first distilled her secret brew." Morgan Bryson (@morganfbryson) is an absolute gem, and having her on Based was written in the stars. ★ The Based girls were looking for a strong female vocalist with a message & Morgan was the perfect fit. Although we were focusing on Morgan's music: her newest single Smoke Smoke & her latest EP Hot Pursuit, we learn that she is a multi-faceted artist with experience in different mediums and a degree in Studio Art. In addition, she has gone to work for Half Full Agency, a creative multi-media and events company as a coordinator, artist, and liaison. Her focus remains on creating unique brand/artist experiences and guest hospitality. 

Morgan has a strong support group in Miami as she tells us she is hyped by the feeling of victory with her friends in the mood of New Kids on the Block. She explains her history with Miami's finest production duo, Paper Water, since they have been heavily involved with Morgan's catalog. Morgan also gives us a taste of her brainstorming process for rollouts + how she continues to plan releases by staying ahead of the curve. She has dedicated this time during quarantine to hone in on her skills as a recording artist and try new things to progress her artistry. 

We can expect some sick new music with collaborations from notable names in Miami as well as a tour once the world reopens. As we transition into full podcast mode, we welcome quite literally one of Florida's best bands.. @cannibalkids! No one is as raw, yet consistent as them; they seem to get it right effortlessly.. every single time. Damian Gutierrez (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) and Dustin Diaz (Lead Guitar) met in Middle School and started making music together. Damian later met Luke Faulkingham (Drums) and brought him into the band. The three of them virtually "sit down" with the Based girls to talk about everything from their adventures into becoming Cannibal Kids, 2016 early jams, touring all of the east coast, and most importantly their full-length offering deadheads. 

A follow-up to their 2017 debut, Bloom, deadheads is a brand new sound that showcases the band’s diversity and growth. "Deadheads" literally meaning to remove dead flower heads from (a plant) to encourage further blooming. This project has solidified a healthy fanbase not only in South Florida, but worldwide! As the rollout of this project hit right before the pandemic, the trio discusses how they had to make a slight shift to still encourage full coverage with digital activations to replace the same love they would have received from the tour that was planned. They are even doing an in-house tour on their Youtube to perform and promote these songs.

The last episode with WVUM is a special one. Today we are chatting with two people behind Miami's best Tuesday party: The Love Below at Las Rosas. The Love Below was created for music lovers, the open minded, and those looking for a break from the typical Miami club scene. The essence of the party is rooted in the DJs, who pride themselves in their un-matched musical selection, and ability to induce an energetic dance floor. That is exactly what Pazmal and Berrakka did with the exclusive mix they provided for their Based appearance. Genre influences for TLB include Future Beats, House, Funk, Soul, Disco, Jersey Club, Latin and more. 

For the last 5 years, The Love Below has helped shape the Miami music landscape through exposure to new sounds. The team plans to remain a staple in the city’s night-life and music community, while growing on a national scale. The name comes from Miami being so low on the map, but the love it possesses. We are lucky to have such an influential part of Miami's sound apart of the Based family.

Can't believe we've made it to episode 14 already! This guest is really special for us, someone who has been recommended from the beginning of the Based days. 

Introducing Lando & The  Infinite Sadness, a musical project by Josue Vargas to fuse his affinity for jazz/hip-hop/emo/neo soul. Lando released Dark Matter early this year, and has gained overwhelming support ever since. Believe it or not, Lando is essentially a one man band. He is able to lay down the drums, bass, guitar, and keys on every record and then hands it over to a trusted friend to polish with sax. Vargas produced the bulk of Dark Matter with little more than a laptop, a MIDI keyboard, and a bass guitar. As a huge fan of jazz and accompanying genres, he is able to morph his sound to reflect his influences, while keeping fresh and pushing the creative envelope.

In this episode, Lando highlights some of the records on this project, talks to us about his creative process in and out of COVID, and debuts some exclusive unreleased special tracks. He also talks about working with other musicians in Miami and multiple musical projects with different sounds. It's a good day when you get to talk to the @palomino_blond squad! Carli, Kyle, Jake & Raven hop on the Based airwaves to discuss their latest split EP with Las Nubes as well as becoming active players in the South Florida DIY scene. After filling countless rooms with earlier projects, the members came together over a shared love of rock/live music, and released demos during the Summer of 2018. The demo has seen relentless support from their homegrown fanbase and regional college radio stations alike.

The band then spent time coining their sound, that could even be described as "shred-gaze" to add a little bit of edge to that classic shoe gaze foundation. The first song we get to hear is called, Seventh Heaven. Which can be described as a "moody crusher that has themes of personal connection, fever dreams, and ghosts. I wanted it to sound like you were in a big dark house while it’s storming outside, and you were convinced it’s haunted by someone you really don’t want it to be haunted by.” Palomino Blond also describes their sound as "sometimes evil, sometimes pretty" to perfectly capture the way the band operates and the way they are continuing to push out content mid-quarantine.
