Don't get me wrong, I would have said 90% of the same stuff about why DPA's are bad. But I wanted to look at the bigger picture of what we need to do to deal with corporations when they commit really extreme, deadly crimes like this. Are they gonna like being handed down life sentences for getting people killed? No. Do I care? Not even remotely. Maybe if they start getting held accountable for their crimes in court, we'll stop laughing when they get Luigi'd in the street.

À partir d'une enquête socio-historique menée entre la Guinée et la France, cette présentation analysera les effets écologiques et sociaux de la trajectoire de la bauxite, depuis son extraction dans les mines de Sangarédi jusqu’à sa transformation en alumine à l’usine Altéo de Gardanne (ex-Pechiney). En mobilisant des entretiens avec des ouvriers, des observations de terrain et l’analyse d’archives, elle met en lumière les violences écologiques multiscalaires et multidimensionnelles générées par cette industrie : exposition des travailleurs aux poussières toxiques et aux risques professionnels, destruction des moyens de subsistance des communautés locales (accaparement des terres, pollution de l’eau, déforestation, fragmentation des liens sociaux). En articulant la sociologie du travail et la justice environnementale, cette recherche éclaire les facteurs à l’origine des inégalités d’exposition, les sentiments d’injustice issus de l’expérience du travail et du rapport à la matière toxique ainsi que les prises de position des ouvriers face aux mobilisations écologistes et communautaires. Elle met également en évidence les inégalités vécues par les populations locales face aux impacts de l’extractivisme.
