  • Episode 288: Hurr-i-cane

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. We’re keeping with the short and sweet episodes by sticking with what we do best, bullshittery. We discuss our streaming review of the, how did this not end up on SyFy, Hurricane Heist. And we also discuss nerd news discussing the cancellation of DareDevil, announcement of a live action Cowboy Bebop and Red Dead Online launch. We wrap it all up in a nice little bow by answering this week’s podquestion of what was your favorite Queen song.

Watching Hurricane Heist we can’t help but continuously ask ourselves “how did this not end up as a made for TV movie on SyFy. This week’s streaming review seems, at face value, to be a silly yet fun concept. But what it actually turned to was a movie that had just too much plot for it’s own good. It focused on two brothers who watched their father die in a hurricane that are trying to stop 600 Million dollars from getting stolen. Sounds fun right? Nope, this movie drags it’s feet at most every opportunity and the only thing that really gets off of the ground is all the debris. We can’t say how disappointed we were, which is just plain sad. We both suggest you stay in your storm shelter and let it pass you by.

Next week we’re starting to tackle some of those Summer movies that we missed by watching Rampage on HBOgo this week.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 287: Ralph Wrecks the Sequel

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we bring you pretty short and sweet show with our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Ralph Breaks the Internet. As our title kind of spoils it, we didn’t really love it. We also discuss our streaming review of Netflix’s live action adaption of Bleach along with a singular news story about Live Action Completely CGI Lion King movie trailer and answer this week’s podquestion of what was your favorite Stan Lee Cameo.

Sometimes I just like to torture Bat… and this week’s streaming review is a great example of that with our streaming review of Bleach on Netflix. The movie follows much of the first season of the anime series with a few modifications. On the whole it’s actually a pretty decent adaptation with the characters capturing the look and feel of most of the characters (maybe except Orihime) and the overall style and flare of the show, even down to Rukia’s drawings. The key problems with this movie is that is really only appeals, and seems to make sense, to those that are fans of the series. Bat was pretty darn lost and also completely miffed by the Dub vs Subtitles conflict. If anything I’d recommend only watching this one in Sub as the English voice cast and script are pretty rough. If you are not an anime/Bleach fan, like Bat, you might want to avoid this one but if you are like me and enjoy the show and its anime tropes I think you’ll find that it’s pretty enjoyable. Heck it makes me want to go back and watch the series a little bit. Bat says hard pass and I say give it a try.

Next week we’re hoping back in the whirlwind… heh… and watching Hurricane Heist

on Netflix. This movie is gonna be stupid, but here’s to hoping that it’s an enjoyable level of stupid.

  • Episode 286: Fantastic Crimes and Where to Dumbledore

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek.

First and foremost, with all of our joking aside, we really do want to send all our best thoughts towards Stan Lee’s family and friends. You sir, will sorely be missed.

Okay, back to normal bs, this week we bring you our magically spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Are you excited for some more wand slinging, because we know we are! We also discuss our streaming review of (groan) Fifty Shades Freed along with some nerd news regarding Sony pulling out of E3 and the Detective Pikachu. We also answer this week’s podquestion of what was your favorite strategy guide.

Oh sometimes I have to ask why we do this to ourselves… but this week our streaming review was Fifty Shades Freed on HBOgo. What can we say that we haven’t already said? These two are just plain terrible for each other and for themselves. Manipulative, childish, poorly planned… well the list goes on and on. But it says something when the most boring part of the movie is it’s sex scenes. Our biggest complaint over the past 3 movies, beyond everything else, is the sheer lack of chemistry between the two main characters. There is a literal void where their chemistry should be. It’s like watching a movie that’s inside a movie ironically where the actors are mocking soap opera actors by just reciting their lines. The best part about this movie is when it ends because you know that’s all of them for now. Skip it, you know you want to.

Next week we’re going to be taking a bit of a pallet cleanser by watching the live action adaptation to the anime Bleach on Netflix. I’ve heard good things about it so here’s to hoping I didn’t just doom us to watch a travesty in motion.

  • Episode 285: Free State of Alright Alright Alright Redux

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we discuss our streaming review of Free State of Jones along with some nerd news regarding Microsoft’s rec acquisition, FF15 DLC canceled and Diablo Mobile Reception. We also answer this week’s podquestion of what song you wanted to see featured in Red Dead 2.

We start the month of November off with a hopeful epic of Free State of Jones on Netflix. We both were hoping for something more than this movie was able to provide. We were wanting something epic and a story that sprawled the Civil War. Unfortunately we were left with a rather disjointed movie instead. There were many “epic” things that happened during this movie but sadly they way they were presented just left the viewer (us) wanting more. We think the movie might have done better if it focused less on Newt as a person and more of the events that surrounded him. We both gave this one a thumbs down.

Next week we’re going to be watching the romantic epic, Fifty Shades Freed. Yup it’s gonna be “great” but at least it’s over after this one. You can watch along on HBOgo.

  • Episode 284: Is This Real Life? Is This Just Fantasy

Hello everyone, welcome back to another week in geek. This week we bring you a whole mess of stuff with Bat’s recap of LA Comic Con, Disneyland and our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Bohemian Rhapsody. We also talk about nerd news, our streaming review of The Witch and some free shit good shit.

Again normally October is our Scary Movie month, but sadly we missed most of it and focused on just one movie. That movie, sadly, was The Witch. Given by the use of sadly in that sentence I think you can tell that we really did not enjoy the movie. What was hyped up by many as one of the scariest movies to come out, was actually a nonsensical borefest. We both were excited with the beginning of the movie about what crazy shit was about to hit us. But that’s were any of the scares ended, what was left was more than an hour of old English and non connected plot lines. We both can’t advise enough to avoid this movie at all costs.

Next week we’re going to be watching Free State of Jones on Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 283: If I Could Turn Back Thyme

Hello everyone, we’re back! (and we don’t mean the Dinosaur Story, deep cuts) It’s been a busy month so far for us with my move and Bat’s prep for LA Comic Con this coming weekend so thanks for being patient with us. We’re still here and we’re just as cynical as we’ve always been. So with that out of the way… as a heads up we’re going to be off again next week but will be back after that so lets get on with the episode. Bat and I divided and conquered by seeing two different movies in the theaters. So Bat brings you his spoiler-free review of Venom and I bring you a spoiler free review of First Man. We also discuss some of the news surrounding the latest Netflix series cancellations and acquisitions along with some fun gaming news, including the ability to change your PSN name.

Normally October is our Scary Movie month… but we’re almost completely through the month so it’s time to play a little catch up with this month’s scary movie that’s sure to make me scream. We heard a lot of great things about The Witch and now’s the time to finally give it a chance. You can watch this movie on Netflix.

Hello everyone and welcome to our special week in geek! I’m moving this weekend (yay leveling up!) so we didn’t get a chance to gather our weekly SzG stuffs so instead we decided it was time to do our Spiderman PS4 Spoilercast. Both Bat and I played the game and beat it so we’re going to cover everything from mechanics to story and give the good oll B&H treatment. If you haven’t played it yet be warned, this whole episode is spoiler heavy. But fret not, we will be back next week with our regularly scheduled week in geek and more fun stuffs.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 281: 2018 Summer Movie Round up

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! With us doing our Summer movie round up this episode we thought it was only fitting for us to watch the last movie on our list for this “summer.” So we went out to the theaters to watch Predator and we are bringing you our spoiler filled and spoiler free reviews for your listening pleasure. Speaking of our Summer Movie Round up… we’re doing that too! It was a busy Summer season and we saw some pretty neat movies along with a few disappointing ones and missed a whole slew of movies that will surely be future streaming movie fodder. But before we get to that we actually got a decent amount of nerd news with:

    -TaleTell closing

    -Die Hard 6

    -Captain Marvel trailer

    -Civ 6 coming to Switch

    -Xbox console subscription plan

    -Joaquin Joker teaser

    – PS & N64 Classics

    -PS Now Download option

Along with all of these awesome bits we review our streaming movie this month, Cargo.

This week’s streaming review Netflix original movie Cargo. Let’s start off and say that while this is a zombie movie it actually doesn’t feature a whole lot of zombies, or as they call them “virals.” This movie focuses more on the human aspect, more specifically the connection between the main character and his daughter. The main drive for Freeman in the movie is to get his daughter to safety within the 48 hrs he has left before he also turns. As I mentioned last week this movie was actually based off of a short movie by the same name) You can watch that short film here Cargo Short Film) but besides Freeman’s performance this movie feels like the good concept was stretched a bit too thin. We both thoroughly enjoyed his performance and think he’s the main thing pulling this movie together. But sadly we’re a bit split on whether that makes us want to recommend the movie. We both gave it a thumbs up but I’m telling people to hold off while Bat is saying he thinks Freeman’s performance makes it more worth while.

That is all for this week’s Blogcast. Please note that we’re taking a little bit of a break next week as I’ll be moving but please listen in to our Spoiler Filled review for Spiderman PS4 posting next Monday.

  • Episode 280: Bye Bye Mr. Super Guy

Hello everyone and welcome to our week in geek! We failed to get back out to the theaters this week but we will be hitting it hard next week with Predator and our Summer Movie wrap up. So this week instead we take a look at the trickle of nerd news including the rumors of Henry Cavil exiting the DC EU… Oh no! Like seriously, we really love him as Superman and have no clue if DC has a solid idea of what they want to do. We also talk about our streaming movie Moon and answer this week’s podquestion of which Super Hero’s alter ego’s job would we want to do.

This week’s streaming review was Moon. We have been curious about seeing this one for some time. In fact it was one of the reasons we watched the Netflix original Mute, as it was the same director. Unfortunately we really, really didn’t like Mute so it made us both hesitant to want to rush to see Moon. But I can say that the driving force for both of us was Sam Rockwell, and he delivered. Much like the one actor movies like Castaway, this movie heavily relies on the performance by Rockwell to really sell the concept. While the movie may end a bit rushed we both found it to be a enjoyable ride with some good acting to continue to move the story along. We both recommend giving this movie a shot and think you’ll have a good time while you’re at it.

For next week’s streaming review we’re jumping back into the breach of Netflix orignal movies with Cargo. Funny enough, this movie is actually a remake of the short film that I was talking to Bat about on the podcast by the same title. You can watch that short film here Cargo Short Film.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
