City Hall hosted a lavish party to kick-off APEC, rolling out the red carpet for over 100 guests and switch the global narrative about San Francisco.

We're kicking off our week-long "Audacy Coversations" program, featuring daily content focusing on the state of our nation's downtowns.

And as APEC gets underway in earnest this week, all eyes are on San Francisco's downtown which is trying to fill vacant storefronts, address the homelessness issue and largely reverse the "doom loop" narrative plaguing the city.

In a recent report looking at the state of our nation's downtown's after the pandemic, San Francisco didn't rank particularly high, but the ones that did could give clues on how the city can make a comeback.

To answer those questions and more, KCBS Radio's Eric Thomas spoke with Karen Chapple, Director of the School of Cities at the University of Toronto which authored the State of Cities report, she's also professor Emerita of City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley, she led the team behind the Downtown Recovery report.

The upcoming Consumer Price Index for November isn't likely to show much progress. 

Experts say the CPI will probably show movement on inflation has largely stalled, fueling anxieties among consumers who fear high prices are here to stay.

In the largest study into the 2024 election to date, data is showing that if the election were held today Donald Trump is on track to beat incumbent president Joe Biden in the electoral college but not the popular vote.

It's been estimated the city would need between 2,000 and 5,000 officers to meet staffing requirements.
