The Pickett Fire burning outside of Calistoga in Napa County has now grown to more than 21-hundred acres and forced some evacuations.
The latest point-in-time counts reveal a notable shift in California's fight against homelessness. Of the fifteen counties that conducted consecutive surveys in 2024 and 2025, thirteen reported a decrease in their overall homeless populations.
When disasters strike, the Red Cross has shelters and services up and running within hours, thanks to volunteers who deploy for days at a time to wildfires and floods. But now, that's not the only to help out in times of need.
