The Christmas season is upon us and in the words of legendary Andy Williams:
"It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year!"
Christmas is wonderful because Jesus came down to earth. Jesus became like us in our humanity. And like us, He had the same family dynamics, the same problems, the same stuff, even the same start (born from His mother’s womb) we have. That’s why Jesus can relate to us, and we can draw near to Him.
When you come, you’ll see that the church is adorned with decorations, hand-made ornaments, and family photos on trees so that you and those you invite will experience the wonder of Christ’s birth. But have you ever stopped to contemplate “Why? Why did Jesus become like us?”
Join us this Sunday as we launch our Advent series, Down To Earth…and this would be a great gathering to bring a friend who needs to hear the Good News!
Advent: the season of expectation for the arrival of the King! I'm so excited to have a different kind of sermon this weekend where we will be sharing and participating together. Historically, there have been 4 biblical words associated with the 4 weeks of advent, and we'll define and discuss them together.
What a tremendous journey we’ve been on learning about God’s view of family, marriage, parenting and “wrinkles.” As disciples of Jesus, the first person we are to disciple is ourselves. Next comes family. Our goal is that each of us would become more like Jesus, and God would use us to make disciples in our families. For this to happen, Jesus must reign over every aspect of our home life. When that is true, we can say with confidence that “No matter the storm, when Jesus enters your situation, He can make things right!” I hope you will join us, and invite a friend, this Sunday as we wrap up our series on Modern Family by focusing on Jesus over everything.
Sure, sure - we all want that picture perfect family. But then reality hits: there's divorce, death, singleness, abuse, blended families, infertility... the list goes on. Our actual families reflect the effects of a fallen world and sinful choices. So where does that leave us? How can we have a "Biblical Family" if our actual families fall so short? Come this Sunday as we discuss what to do with the wrinkles of our real lives.
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes... well, you know. In this series, we're trying to lay our culture's worldview side-by-side with a biblical worldview and see what we can learn. This Sunday, we'll explore how we all think about Parenthood and the reality of kids. Hopefully we can all take one step closer to thinking biblically, no matter our parental status or prospects. See you Sunday!
In this series, we're trying to lay our culture's worldview side-by-side with a biblical worldview and see what we can learn. This Sunday, we'll do a deep dive on Marriage; what it is, what it produces and what we should do about it. If you're ready to dig deep, I'll see you Sunday!
Our families are where we learn and live discipleship - very few people impact our growth in Christlikeness as much as the people we live with (and grew up around). That's why we're turning to a series about the family, marriage and parenthood for the next few weeks. Why is it that the Family and Marriage are increasingly falling apart in our culture? What are the cultural lies that we're believing that are leading our society down this path? Let's look at our culture and the Scriptures together to see what we can learn.
This week we wrap our series on the Spirit-led life. We’ve been focusing on how to experience the Spirit’s presence. The Spirit-led life is NOT striving to get better or trying harder or working to suppress sin. It’s actually the opposite. The Spirit-led life IS surrendering to the Spirit, depending on the Spirit, being influenced by the Spirit. In a single word, to be Spirit-filled is to “abide.” And it is the abiding life that bears fruit. Those who take the posture of a branch cease their striving and bear much fruit. Join us this Sunday as you learn the blessing of “branch life.”
Why is it that so many believers have misplaced love, security and significance? It is because we are not walking by the Spirit. Why is it that I’ve heard so many say in frustration, “My Christian life just doesn’t work?” It is because we are not filled with God’s Spirit. But what does it even mean to be filled with the Spirit? And how does someone actually walk by the Spirit? This Sunday, I look forward to sharing with you the thing that has probably had the biggest impact on my spiritual life.
When it comes to seeking after a Spirit-Led life, we too often skip over the fact that there is a hurdle in our hearts we need to clear first: our flesh. Our own sin nature is CONTRARY to the Spirit and wants to sabotage the work of God in our hearts. But how powerful is this flesh? Can we possibly overcome it? Is this any hope, or should we accept defeat? This Sunday we'll discuss what the Bible says about our old self and how to make sure it doesn't prevent the work of the Spirit.
