The interaction between Jesus and the woman at the well offers us so much to consider. We learn about our internal longings, our futile practices, and how Jesus offers us a drink that satisfies and even multiples. In this sermon, we’ll see how an unlikely conversation, an inconvenient request, and a powerful revelation will lead us to be no longer longing. 

Waiting on the Lord is difficult for us to do as broken people. Mark 8:1-10 is a miraculous moment in Jesus’ ministry that has many implications for how we wait on the Lord and how we look to Jesus to provide for our needs. Ultimately, we will see how Jesus provides exactly what we need through his life, death, and resurrection.

In Mark 6:1-6, Jesus comes home to Nazareth. As He enters the synagogue to teach, the hometown crowd begins to question His teachings and miracles. Their questioning ultimately turns into rejecting the homegrown Prophet. Consequently, Jesus marvels at their unbelief and leads town with little to show. Sadly, we can be guilty of the same skepticism and resentment that Nazareth shows to Jesus. However, Jesus is not surprised by this nor deterred from His plans to give His life as a ransom for many. 

In Luke 5, we witness Jesus calling His disciples to follow Him on two different occasions. Regardless of the circumstances, we learn how and even why Jesus calls His disciples to follow Him. Also, we discover that the response to this call is no different than the response to the gospel: repent and believe.

In Mark 1:14-15, we learn of the message that defines the ministry of Jesus. Jesus offers the good news of God to change our world as we know it. This good news speaks of the promises that God keeps and the power that He exercises. In response to this good news, Jesus call us to repent and believe.

This past Sunday, Pastor Ken shared from Matthew 4:1-11 how Jesus remained faithful to his calling though great testing and temptation. By following the Spirit, combatting the Devil, and receiving care, Jesus passes His wilderness test.
