Gears of War, one of the video games that helped Microsoft's Xbox to win over millions of fans, is back.

Prequel E-Day takes players back to where it all started, telling the origin story of humanity's conflict with The Locust - the series' horrifying enemy species.

The game's been well-received by critics and players, but it's also seen as a big test of Xbox's new direction.

Unlike recent flagship titles from the company's studios, which have been released on PlayStation 5 and, in some cases, Nintendo Switch, E-Day is being pushed as an Xbox exclusive.

The apparent goal is to draw players back to the brand, but critics have questioned whether that's realistic at a time when console prices are higher than ever.

At least 30 people have been killed in a Russian glide bomb attack on two civilian buses in the eastern front line city of Kramatorsk, rescue officials said.

Authorities said three people were also killed in the village of Bilenke, part of the Kramatorsk community.

Another 18 people were wounded, said Donetsk regional head Vadym Filashkin, accusing Russia of targeting buses carrying passengers to kill as many civilians as possible.

Kramatorsk and neighbouring Slovyansk are part of a so-called fortress belt that Moscow is trying to seize as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim to the entire Ukrainian industrial region of Donbas.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said: "This strike will not go without our response."

On Wednesday, memorial events took place in Israel for the third anniversary of the devastating Hamas-led attack there that sparked the war in Gaza.

Families paid tribute to their loved ones at some of the sites where about 1,200 people were killed in the assault and 251 were taken hostage.

In response to the attack, Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 74,200 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures are seen as reliable by the UN.

Thames Valley Police has accepted that the information given to the Old Bailey about warrants relating to their decision to search the former Prince Andrew's Sandringham home and the Royal Lodge in Windsor was incorrect.

Andrew was arrested by Thames Valley Police in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He denies any wrongdoing.

The warrants were issued before his arrest and his lawyers are challenging their lawfulness.

Over 10 years since the EU referendum that saw the UK vote to leave the European Union, French finance minister Roland Lescure has invited Britain to "come all the way" back to the EU.

Hi comments come after UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham signalled a second Brexit referendum was "possible" in a future Labour election manifesto.

When asked about Burnham's comments, Lescure told the BBC: "British people decided, and that's obviously their 100% right, and if they're willing to come back, they will have to decide."

"But what I can tell them is: come back, anytime," he added.

A judge in the US state of Tennessee has ruled officials must preserve all evidence related to the failed execution of Christa Pike.

Judge Myles ordered that "anything that was in the actual room needs to be preserved and maintained," including IV lines and syringes, as well as waste, like packaging, inserts, and labels.

She also advised the state to take "special care" not to misplace or accidentally delete any information that may be pertinent to the case.

Pike, who was sentenced to death after murdering Colleen Slemmer with her then-boyfriend in 1995, survived two lethal injections on 30 September.

Her Lawyer Randy Spivey says he was told Pike was brain dead on Monday, and it was expected that she would have her life support machine turned off on Tuesday, but instead she woke up and began speaking.

Pike remains in hospital, where she is receiving critical medical care and is being restrained at her hands and feet.
