The police chief in Ahmedabad said there appears to be no survivors from the plane crash in India which was heading to London Gatwick, according to reports from the AFP and AP news agencies.

The Air India flight was carrying 242 people and crashed shortly after take-off.

A curfew is in place for a second night in Los Angeles after nearly a week of unrest in the city over US immigration raids.

Multiple people were arrested for violating the downtown curfew shortly after it came into effect at 20:00 local time on Wednesday (03:00 GMT on Thursday).

Nearly 400 people have been arrested in LA since protests began on Friday, including 330 undocumented migrants and 157 people arrested for assault and obstruction, including one for the attempted murder of a police officer.

Federal prosecutors have so far charged two men for throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers in two separate incidents.

A London-bound plane has crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India.

"Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today," Air India said.

The plane is understood to have been carrying more than 200 passengers.

Tracking website Flightradar24 says it received the last signal from the aircraft at 625 feet (190m) "just seconds after take off"

A third night of violence broke out in Northern Ireland as a leisure centre in the town of Larne providing emergency shelter for families who had fled the violence came under attack.

It follows rioting in Ballymena by masked men who attacked police and set homes and cars on fire. Police condemned their actions as “racist thuggery” targeting ethnic minorities and police officers and said they were investigating “racially-motivated hate crimes”. 32 officers were injured in the violence.

The disorder began following a protest over an alleged sexual assault in Ballymena.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council confirmed the leisure centre attacked in Larne had provided emergency shelter for families in urgent need following disturbances in Ballymena.

Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of sexual assault in a six-week trial in New York, after his first conviction in the state was overturned last year.

A panel of seven female and five male jurors deliberated for five days before unanimously voting to convict the disgraced film mogul of one of three counts.

The jury found him not guilty of an additional sexual assault charge, and have yet to return a verdict on a charge of rape.

The conviction is in addition to a 16-year sentence that Weinstein has yet to serve after being convicted of sex crimes in Los Angeles.

Thousands of people in Austria have held a candlelight vigil for the victims of a school shooting, in which 10 people were killed and a further 12 injured.

Police said the 21-year-old suspect, a former student, took his own life in a school bathroom shortly after the gun attack in Graz on Tuesday, the deadliest in the country's recent history.

In a statement on Wednesday, police said they found a "farewell letter" and a non-functional pipe bomb during a search of the suspect's home.

Authorities have not confirmed the gunman's motive.

Los Angeles police said they have made "mass arrests" after a fifth day of protests over US President Donald Trump's immigration raids.

Mayor Karen Bass declared an overnight curfew within a relatively small area of the city's downtown district, saying businesses were being vandalised and looted.

Trump's row with state officials ramped up after he deployed troops to LA and he vowed to "liberate" the city, but has been accused by California Governor Gavin Newsom of an "assault" on democracy.

The UK has sanctioned two far-right Israeli ministers over "repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities" in the occupied West Bank.

Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich will both be banned from entering the UK and will have any assets in the UK frozen as part of the measures announced by the foreign secretary.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the cabinet would meet next week to respond to what he called an "unacceptable decision".
